December 6, 2020 - Far more fruit and resulting harmony in this wine over the previous bottle (02.05.2020). Excellent with mash and casserole. Not up there with the most excellent offerings from Piemonte, but far better than many other odd bottles from both this producer and many others. In my experience there is far too much negative bottle variation to warrant confident purchases.

June 28, 2020 - The 2004 Produttori Riservas: Asili wins by a nose (Magnum Society, Wellington, New Zealand): Served single blind. Picked as potentially the Ovello. Fairly primary red colour. Pretty floral, raspberry, red cherry, dried red fruit, earth, tobacco and Asian spice perfumes. On palate, a rich, generous, red fruited entry. Seemingly drinking younger than the first two wines, also qualitatively - in my opinion - clearly better. Harmonious and complex. Layered. Truffles, delicate cherries, spices and savoury components. Lovely precise acidity. Soft but refined tannins. Showing well now but with years ahead of it. Often in a Produttori horizontal my favourite Riserva - I did not see here the chalky tannins I normally associate with the Montefico - my rating 3/7, group rating 4/7. Quality!

May 2, 2020 - Starting off fair, with watery rim and some cherry. Acidity the most forceful element of the palate. With time, it develops into a more tertiary/mature bouquet with sous bois, and a harmonious palate. With time, and not least temperature hitting room level, the smooth but marked tannins get noticed. Not quite up there with the best of this kind, but far better than some pretty odd offerings from this address lately.

December 20, 2019 - A good vibrant colour and a youthful vigorous nose. Decent flavour profile but a bit lacking in complexity. Still very tannic so maybe just at an in-betweeny stage?

September 14, 2019 - Barely ready. 14% but seems higher than that.
