    September 17, 2022 - Smooth to a really profound degree. It’s so well integrated that it takes a while to pick apart. Think about the 45+ second finish, though, and you can pry out everything from mint to iron to leather to smoke.

    August 13, 2022 - This took a long time to open up. Smooth as silk. Fruit was a bit muted until it was open for awhile. I decanted for 2 hours, and it was still a bit tight in the glass. Maybe a higher rating in a few years. I think it still needs some time.

    July 29, 2022 - Amazing...definitely in it's peak window. Smooth, fruity, lots of depth, hint of pepper on the very long finish. No rush to drink but awesome right now.

    June 17, 2022 - Balanced blackberry and dark cherry fruit perfectly integrated with silky smooth tannins delivering a super smooth, long finish. This Cab is drinking VERY well right now after an hour decant. Nice secondary notes of mocha, currants and lavender. Really good!

    neither 05 or 06 shows much color development. i guess when you start out at purple it takes a little longer to meander through ruby and garnet on the way to browning. No brown on either rim, but yes to garnet color.

    06 still shows the barrel spice w/out the wild blackberry fruit of 05.

    06 with more air becomes less savory over the course of the lunch. comes closer to the 05, but still with a shy-er fruit profile.

    again 97% Cab w/ 3% Merlot. mostly from Champoux with Klipsun and Tapteil.

    April 9, 2022 - Deep purple. Dark fruited with blackberry, cherry compote, and some distant notes of coffee, licorice and creosote. Dense, mouth-filling palate with dark plummy fruit, some sweetness and a touch of vanilla on the finish. Fully resolved tannins. Not overly complex. Although well-made and a very good wine, to my taste this was more gloss than personality.

    March 8, 2022 - A great cab with dense dark fruit, notes of cassis, black raspberry, spice box with beautifully integrated tannins and long satisfying finish. Still young. Paired perfectly with grilled bistro filets.

    January 22, 2022 - One off auction buy ($127) 3.5 years ago. On the nose and palate, black cherries, black currants, blackberries, cassis, cigar box, anise, dark chocolate, graphite, pencil shavings and a touch of oak given wonderful backbone by notes of dark roast coffee, tar and bell pepper. Opaque purple, medium to full bodied, thick legs. Medium+ tannins which integrated with air, medium- well-integrated acidity, a touch of heat on opening. Outstanding complexity, VG+ intensity, off the charts persistence. This wine tumbled out of the bottle big and a bit disjointed with a bit of booziness and unwieldy tannins, but it was immediately clear that this was a case of when, not if, it would be stellar. It took about 2-2.5 hours for this to hit its best stride, at least for my tastes, at which point it became not just a wine of great power, but great beauty and deceptive subtlety. At that point, the wine was so good, I recorked it, although I often leave the bottle open for an hour or two when I’m having a second glass; consistent notes on night 2. Equally stunning on its own and with spicy chicken-basil-feta orzo night 1, deep dish pizza on night 2. Youthful and muscular yet displaying impeccable balance, this wine with the decant is in a great drinking window, probably unlikely to improve, but almost certain to hold here for 8-10+ years if well-stored. This is my second QC—I had a young Palengat with A_M, and I have a young Galitzine in my collection—and it exceeded my high expectations in every way, the best of a strong, growing number of WA wines I’ve had in the past couple of years, and drinking more from WA is right at the top of my wine NY’s resolutions. As I commented with a similarly scored, slightly more expensive ‘08 Ovid, it may be the height of Bay Area upper middle class privilege, but in the premium wine category, this constitutes compelling value. Just a touch more concentration, which is in no way remotely deficient, and this wine would flirt with perfection; instead, it will have to settle for magnificence. I’m a buyer at or around this price for any of the 3 premiere bottlings in good vintages. Pro scores more accurate than those on CT, IMO. 98+
