Community Tasting Notes 5

February 18, 2021 - Fully mature but not past its prime. Surprisingly still showing nice red fruit, leather, and well integrated green bell pepper and tobacco. Palate still has a dollop of freshness.

November 23, 2020 - During a St.Emilion dinner. Light garnet. Lovely nose of red fruit, clay, spices, some dark cherry and tertiary forest aromas as well. On the palate this shows a lot of bitterness. I don't think they had phenolic ripeness here unfortunately.

January 14, 2018 - Drinking well. No notes, but better than recent old wines.

September 27, 2017 - Cuvee of Merlot and Cabernet Franc (possibly with some Malbec and/or Petit Verdot)

Mature brownish red garnet. Transparent but youthful for its age.

Classic claret perfume from the first second of opening and kept getting better as the night went on. Truffle, shiitake mushroom, old leather, potpourri.

Complete integration with no sign of stumbling over the hill. Bright red fruit, smoky cedar, earthy soil tone, cooking spices. The mouthfeel is supple and elegant, no excess or pretension. Clean and fully mature.

A birthday bottle opened for by a dear friend and a reason why I am so devoted to this wonderful journey. Last long in memory. 92.

January 18, 2009 - Mature but very dark color. Gorgeous cigar box/ slightly sandalwood nose. Perfectly resolved tannins now, a nice core of spicy fruit still there along with all the classic tertiary stuff. All finesse and poise. Went some way to restoring my faith in Bordeaux (or to reminding me what is missing in the modern stuff).
