January 8, 2022 - Just picked up 4 of these at an auction. It’s really good. I lean toward Bordeaux so at this stage of life this cab was fantastic. Perfectly integrated tannins and fruit.
May 19, 2021 - Nose is barnyard cherry, oiled leather. Initially a bit tight and slightly bitter, but opens up into a dark cherry cocktail with a bit of acidity. Clearly past its prime but still quaffable.
November 16, 2013 - Extremely mellow for a B&H, but not to the point that is was void of fruit. These days I rather prefer this label in this final stage, vs the bombastic candied fruit bruisers most tend to be early on. This one still carried a smidge of high alc palate in the end, which kept it from being one of the best bottles I've had here. Still - good stuff, but I wouldn't hold past another year or two.
June 5, 2013 - Ripe fruit but not over the top. Blueberries.
May 27, 2013 - Big hit at a Memorial Day party!
May 21, 2013 - Popped and poured at a relatively new restaurant in Wilmington named Rx. Dark fruits and espresso on the nose. Tannins were well integrated with a long finish of black currant.
July 10, 2012 - Sampled 7/9/12. Fruit bomb with too much alcohol and Oak to make me happy. It did not get better after 4 hours in the air.
March 23, 2012 - As others have noted, this is rather fruit-subdued for a B&H. It does still have that tell-tale dark fruit game plan - although here it's dribbling in the backcourt, instead of pushing it up the floor.
But yeah, this is still the goods - and in a great place right now with its soft blue texture and hint of spice. This juice was a bit overwhelmed by the crazy sushi rolls we paired it with - so this may be best sipped courtside, sans gastro accompaniment.
July 15, 2011 - PnP from a magnum. Nice fruit profile, not too ripe like some B&H's. Black & blueberries, soft yet still has a few more years to mellow more.
May 6, 2010 - Final bottle; decanted and consumed over 90 mins. Less in-your-face-blueberry than many B&H wines, as llink said this is among their better bottlings. Still has telltale B&H Blue notes, but in a good place without being in-your-face. Still good for another 2-5 years; it might get a little softer, but it'll always be a calicab.
