April 16, 2015 - A lovely balanced effort which is certainly still on the youngish side, but starts revealing integration and balance that comes with maturity. Lovely led pencil, red currant, saddle leather and deep fruit permeat the nose. The palate is integrated with a striking acidity and fruit as main components. Tannins are vocal, but still much more integrated compared to a few years ago. Overall impression is certainly positive. I see this wine ageing easily for another decade or more.

April 30, 2014 - A lovely and certainly nice effort from Penley Estate, the 2007 Phoenix delivers an abundance of red mature fruits, gentle wood and secondary tones of subtle led pencil and spiciness. The palate is nicely integrated and adds to the overall experience in a very positive way. It is integrated but shows enough structure to deliver a true experience. With a vivid acidity and soft elegant tannins, this wine certainly delivers at its best tonight. A very nice effort!

August 31, 2013 - Very nice and perfectly open for business, the 2007 Phoenix Cabernet displays an array of perfectly balanced red fruit, led pencil and integrated oak. The palate is full bodied with a very nice balanced between the different components. The acidity is quite forward and helps make this effort a very nice food companion. I am quite surprised by the youth this effort expresses and I am quite sure it will age well for another 5 to 10 years.

June 17, 2013 - In a perfect drinking window. Pure fruit and expression of cool climate cab.

May 26, 2012 - Earth, wet clay, dark fruit, pencil... This is a schoobook Cabernet, but very balanced with a very nice acidity and pleasant tannins. As I wrote in my last TN, this effort needs a few more years in the cellar to reveal its full potential and gain some signs of maturity.
