January 8, 2021 - Enjoyable but not as evolved as I would have expected (nor does it seem to have peaked, though may be on a long and not exciting plateau)
November 28, 2019 - Great thanksgiving dinner wine. Nice floral on the nose. Color is dark, legs are sticking to the glass.
Body is big and rich, load of black fruit. You can test the intensity of this wine. Great structure and balance. Long finish. This wine is peakin. Out standing Napa Cabernet Sauvignon!!!
August 23, 2019 - Nose of plum, black berry, black cherry, touch of barnyard and forest floor, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, elegant tasting, delicious, mouth filling fruit, rich fruit, at peak drinking, time to enjoy is now if you own it, and a long, flavorful finish and aftertaste, a great Cabernet Sauvignon that is worth the money.
May 11, 2019 - The cork looked fine after foil removal but disintegrated upon extraction. Rich in color and slightly past due plums on the nose. The flavor improved over time, lacked the expected richness. Still quite enjoyable but probably was more so a couple years ago.
March 8, 2018 - I don’t know how they figured the drinking window. I’m saying 2020 is more likely. My bottle was bought fresh on release and stored right but it is not at the end of life. I didn’t decant and as said previously it was improved after being open an hour. I had it with lamb shank and that was a perfect match.
February 1, 2018 - Aromas of funk, earth, blackberry and cherry. Flavors of dried cherry, blackberry, mint and earth. Ends with a mint and cherry infused finish of 35+ seconds. Never had a Cask 23 in it's heyday and this was impressive stuff.
December 31, 2017 - 375ml bottle. Beautiful dark magenta in color with really pretty notes of pencil lead, baking spice, and cherries in the nose. In the mouth this is lovely with complex notes of cassis, red fruit, and autumn leaves.
EDIT: 1 hour in and this is KILLER!! Amazing nose of spring flowers and cherries with a mouthfull of the same in addition to cassis and a slight hint of sandalwood. Fine tannins and a very, very long finish round out what is a very complete wine with a seriously bright future. Super impressive....especially since this was out of a 375ml!!
November 17, 2015 - Decanted four hours, which lost much of the gorgeous violet bouquet, but even so the wine continued to develop through dinner. More alcohol than I prefer but a lovely balance of dried fruit, tobacco, cherry, leather, and coffee. Won't appeal to fruit-forward fans but thoroughly enjoyed with steaks.
March 28, 2015 - Out of double magnum: Dark, clear red. Nose shows roasted coffee, creme de cassis and dark fruit. The wine is still very youthful and it appears to close down with decanting. Great balance, long and complex. Tannins are still hard but there is enough fruit left which allows this wine to age gracefully. Out of the large format it is still to young, normal bottles likely ready to drink.
October 8, 2014 - Smoky, tar, currant nose with hints of marmite and mineral. Dark and firm with grip and freshness. Long buttered toast finish. Tasted blind
The only Californian of the tasting playing to the sensibilities of the French challengers. It was tough to call the region on this one.
