October 16, 2022 - Decanted and waited an hour. It started out tight but full of hope as it may be.

Cigar wrapper, a solid core of black fruits, a hint of mint, a bit of forest floor, maybe a little dried orange peel, nicely integrated tannins, good acidity. It’s drinking well now. I’m not sure I’d hold it more more than a couple more years.

I served it with an aged bone in strip steak with a peppercorn brandy cream sauce and roasted while cauliflower.

April 13, 2020 - Last bottle I believe, purchased 10 years ago. Still very youthful, pouring dark purple with a garnet rim. Rich, almost port-like nose, with cassis and black cherry aromas, some light oak, and a touch of eucalyptus and alcoholic heat. Dense and quite structured, with firm chewy tannins, and a thin veil of plum and cherry fruit, black olive, and herbal notes. I guess I will never find out if the fruit will outlive the tannins on this beast, but it leans toward the more traditional mold of CA cabs rather than the new wave fruit and oak bombs. Well made, and for the $17 purchase price, good QPR.
Update, day 2: tannins have smoothed out considerably, fruit a bit more forward, oak a bit more subdued. Very easy drinking, though still a touch of heat on the finish.

March 15, 2018 - My last of these drank with beef short ribs. The wine is still preforming well with the fruit fading a bit. I wold be drinking these if you have them.

December 6, 2017 - Surprisingly, seems to have more life left in it then I initially thought. Opened yesterday and it seemed thin and OTH, with some stewed fruit flavors. Gassed it and revisited today and it was much improved. Deep black fruit profile, full-bodied with moderate tannins and moderate vanilla oak. More subdued than many CA cabs, but still pretty fruit forward. Holding up pretty well, much better than expected and good value @ $16.99.

March 15, 2016 - caveat: I am on the end of a cold/influenza but I got a huge nose and taste profile of bubblegum/cotton candy. With grilled steak it was enjoyable, on it's own not so much. Curious to see how it holds up vacuvinned.
