November 1, 2023 - Grand Jury du Vin - Republic of Georgia; 11/1/2023-11/9/2023 (Republic of Georgia then stopover in Paris and Dijon): En Jeroboam. Not premoxed but a bit one dimensional. Exceptional concentration, very ripe yellow fruit, rich and deeply toned, peach and dry apricot, a lot of honey. A good demonstration where a great red vintage may not be so great for the whites. Slightly lacking acidity. The time has not been kind.
April 22, 2022 - (Mostly) Burgundy Dinners with Friends; 4/21/2022-4/22/2022 (Chicago, IL): Great color and fill, so I was optimistic. Still delicately floral with earth, apple, white pepper, and anise notes. Good weight, better length. In a very good place now.
August 28, 2021 - Tucson Lunch Bunch En Magnum dinner: Beautiful wine en magnum. Served alongside the '08 Bouchard Chevy. This bottle was pristine and at the top of its game. No hint of oxidation. It seems as if it will last at least another 10 years. Rich, balanced...excellent fruit, fresh and great finish. Most preferred this over the '08, only because of the added complexity of age. Both wines were great.
April 11, 2020 - Beautiful, lemony. More full-bodied, less precise than typical Chevalier. Batard-like. But lovely juice.
August 3, 2019 - Classic and no issues. Still had a long life left.
November 17, 2018 - Very clean, clear color, too youthful to drink...really. Developed over time in the glass.
March 22, 2017 - Very much grand cru richness and weight. Good bottle, could have been 09 rather than 99.
March 22, 2017 - Slow oxed for 2 hrs. Good minerals, ripe yellow fruit, petrol and some tropical fruit on the nose. Palate is fat and oily with good intensity.
The wine is tricky in a way that it does taste like a Batard more than Chevalier. The warm vintage really balances out with the more elegant Chevalier terrior such that it brings out a rich and oily wine with weight and depth. Its really missing the complexity and elegance which I like about Chevalier. It can probably develop more with aging.
October 20, 2016 - Burgundy, Barolo Dinner @ BRERA, Los Angeles (Officine BRERA): Slightly broader, and with more stucture than the other GC's on the table (07' Sauzet Batard, and 04' PYCM Chevy). A nice showing, though the purity of fruit is not evident here, and as a result, not quite up to the crystaline Sauzet, and laser like PYCM. Paired well with Norwegian Halibut and porcini mushrooms.
June 5, 2012 - Solid, quite beautiful - rich and long. (Chv Blc)
