April 15, 2022 - EAB dinner. Worried this might be over the hill but I thought it was a beautiful expression of mature syrah. Nicely balanced and complex with some hints of iron. Last bottle.

May 11, 2021 - drinking super well. dark in color and still more primary but developing. still has a couple of decades to go.

October 4, 2020 - Cork was a disaster and required significant effort to filter and decant. Medium ruby in color with light bricking. Surprisingly perfumed and enjoyable floral nose. Fleshy red fruit and berry notes on the palate with peppery minerality on the finish. Still-fresh acidity makes this a winner with grilled meats. Light tannins became more rounded and finished with air; suggest at least a 60-minute decant at this point. Doubt it will improve but should be good for at least 3-4 years.

November 14, 2019 - Licorice and dark fruit on the nose. In the mouth, tannin and dark fruit. Showing well, if still young. If well stored, no rush.

April 29, 2018 - From memory. Black and blue fruits all the way through, especially berry and stone, lots of just-soft-enough tannins. No complaints about the product, definitely Rhone syrah, significantly rustic. For me, too concentrated alone, better with our brisket.

(St Joseph ST COSME) 2007 Rhone Dear Friends, If you are a fan of Cote Rotie or any of the more perfumed northern Rhone examples, this wine is really going to surprise you - the purity and atmospheric character is laugh-out-loud lovely. You cannot produce Syrah like this anywhere else in the world and the aromatics are worth the cost alone. Usually I spit most wines in a broad tasting but not with this (I took the bottle home and drank what was left). In classic St. Cosme style, this wine acts more like a combination of extracted Cornas (masculinity) mixed with Cote Rotie (femininity) than lightly style St, Joseph. It's not quite rugged enough to be Hermitage but it will bowl over most other examples of St Joseph without losing focus or direction. A top 2007 that has turned out even better than I originally thought and (dare I say) a wine I could drink several times per week without blinking an eye: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - this wine is hardly distributed in the US (unlike the Cotes du Rhone, Gigondas and Cote Rotie that have strong national presence). This parcel is directly from the source with perfect provenance: 2007 St. Cosme St. Joseph (there's a great opportunity right now, due to the depressed pound, to DI this wine out of the UK at $18-19, an absurd price for Syrah of this quality - my guess is you need to be quick as very little of this makes its way out of France) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Rhone8730
