April 16, 2010 - Nose has some plummy dark fruit, but on the palate this shows decent structure, with some dark fruit, spice and earth. Better than previous bottle. 86-87

October 15, 2009 - What does it mean when the first time you actually look at how much is left in the bottle, there's less than half and you're the only one drinking it on a Thursday evening? Probably means you're experiencing it as more of a BEVERAGE than a wine. And what's wrong with that? At 12.5% listed alcohol, this provides more sheer drinkability and refreshment than you could shake a stick at. Plucked out of the cellar at 55 degrees it's actually refreshing, kind of like how Michael Broadbent historically defines the profile of CLARET. It's not simple and fruity, though. There are interesting notes of dark berry, leather, and pepper. Gentle tannins frame it and give it a structure you wouldn't otherwise expect. It went great with two leftover quiches my wife had made, one an inspired twist on sausage and peppers and the other a more traditional spinach number. So I thought I'd see if I can find a little more about VdP Coteaux de Peyriac, which turns out to be in the department of Aude in Langeudoc-Rousillon. Then I found the producer's website where they described it thusly: "The vineyard is 50 years old, the grapes are ripe, and vinification is long.More wine please ! It is simple, fruity, it is the wine we feel like drinking every day. It is a healthy and a natural wine as it is an authentic product. Wine plant : Carignan (100%). " Don't try to improve upon perfection.

September 20, 2009 - Initial impressions were of candies and artificial fruit on the nose, i.e. not very positive. After some time and on the next night this improves , smoothes out to nice fruity nose, medium body and decent finish. It matched large array of food nicely. 85-86

March 2, 2009 - Dark fruit-driven with a bit of herb and spice. Nothing profound or complex, but simply deliciious. Thoroughly reasonable and food-friendly 12.5% alcohol. And reasonably priced at $11.
