Community Tasting Notes 2

January 12, 2012 - Drank over two days. My score fluctuated between 88 and 91 and I ended up by 90. Garnet red and quite transparent. Immediately after popping the nose was dominated by oak, with some cider, undergrowth and aromatic herbs. The palate is intense with fine, almost syrupy red berries, with a good balance and a long finish, which is distinctly on licorice notes.
After a few hours the oak aromas had completely dissipated and the nose became dominated by a strong sweet raspberry note mixed with some funk - a mixture of pungent sweetness which I cannot correctly describe and found a bit unpleasant (and brought back to my mind the nose of a Nuits St. Georges 2009 of Anne Gros tasted this summer).
On the second day the nose had a very clean, sweet and fine raspberry note, which I liked very much. The palate stayed fine. It would be interesting to retaste this in a few years.

July 11, 2011 - A medium dark violet colour in the glass. This offers a terrific tensed aromatic structure combining masculinity, power and finesse. A spice permeated nose displays undertones of candied cherry and plum together with more rusting and darker impressions of wet earth and roasting. The sweet cinammon spice is in command here providing tremendous lift through out the aromatic spectrum. The palate is likewise tensed and sappy. It offers great balance and freshness. Tannins are ripe and tender although remaining a tad bitter in the finish. Very good bottle. Rebuy: Yes.
