    January 3, 2019 - This wine has a tremendous amount of character - lots of berries and a bit of funk. A real wakeup call after sipping a smoothed out old bordeaux. But overall it's a bit out of balance - a bit too showy and over the top for my taste.

    December 18, 2018 - PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
    -opaque inky dark red purple
    -subtle dark berry smoked meat
    -barely med acidity peeks in late, med weight faint dark berry and licorice shell with a hearty earthy core that flows into med tannins on the moderately long finish
    -substantial stuffing in the Old World sense, not flashy or profound but solid genuine soulful and satisfying, still may have some upside, this bottle is clearly the winner of the 3 I have tasted

    May 31, 2018 - Clearly made in the "new" style of Copain, this wine could easily be mistaken for a French Rhone with it earthy and gamy core of flavors. Black fruits and minerals complement the earthy flavors and are presented in a somewhat austere package with a bit of a hollow mid-palate. There are still plenty of tannins left so there is time to wait. If you want to sample it now, give it a reasonable decant.

    March 31, 2018 - Served at a dinner party and only got a small glass! Good Cali syrah, holding up well at 10 years, at peak but no rush.

    January 3, 2018 - Such a unique and powerful wine. Berry fruit dominates but is integrated with earthy, spicy and green pepper notes. The profile is fabulous: chalky, round tannins, powerful spicy red fruit lifted by bright acidity. The finish is incredibly long.

    (Copain Syrah Halcon Vineyard) Barrel sample - dark magenta color; lovely pepper, smoke and charcoal nose; tasty, complex, smoky, tart plum, pepper and green peppercorn palate; medium-plus finish 93-95 pts.
