June 19, 2020 - Wine in the time of Corona Virus - Quarantining in NYC & NH; 3/7/2020-9/1/2020 (NYC/NH): Purchased at release. Popped and poured, last bottle of the night - so balance was held over until Day 2. Another good showing for one of these aged Copain Syrahs, savory and mature, with a light mouthfeel - a bit more red fruited than dark. Ready to go now, but should hold for a while in the cellar.

January 9, 2020 - Decanted for an hour prior to serving. This is drinking in a really nice place, but should hold for a while. Fragrant nose of red fruit and earth - color is ruby red. Palate has juicy red fruit with some hints of savory notes and a good spine of acidity for freshness. Out of four wines shared with friends tonight, this was the favorite.

July 27, 2019 - Deep, dark cherry red color. Shoe polish nose at first, with reticent dark fruit flavors. Bright acidity on the palate, medium weight, plushly textured. So balanced, and in a perfect spot right now. Wow. Best Syrah I've had from Copain. Easily good for five more years. Sourced from the winery.

January 6, 2018 - A bit of a reductive rubber nose at first, opened up to reveal nice secondary notes and plenty of earth and a bit of funk. Delicious and in a nice spot.

November 2, 2017 - Two years + since the last bottle and really had no idea what to expect here. I love Copain Brosseau and the youthful side of the wines are really attractive to me but as we now start to get to 10 years on some of these vintages, and since the advent of the winery's style change around 2007, it's now a good time to see how these are evolving. I opened this last night, and it's been laying down for some time so it had a pile of sediment along the spine of the bottle. Last night's glass needed air, it started to show better as it aired out. Roll forward to tonight, a full day of slow ox and also I got this at the perfect temp, in the upper 60s. So what's here? As I look back to my 2015 note, this wine really hasn't budged all that much, meaning the blueberry and black cherry tones are still the dominant fruit markers. Still some of the Brosseau chalk signature, which is giving the wine a solid structure. It also has the savory tones from the stems, mainly a rosemary/light herbal, along with some licorice and embers. My sense as to where this heads is that over the next 5 years, the fruit that remains here fades down and this becomes more savory and secondary with the structure still living on to hold it all together. I like it.
