September 14, 2020 - Screw cap. 3rd of 3 bottles purchased last year at auction.
This bottle showed best of the 3, drinking really nicely and well-integrated in a way that only bottle age can bring. Yes, not the most complex pinot, but beautiful texture and mouthfeel, good depth of flavor, and good balance made this a joy to drink. The screw cap has worked nicely for this bottling. -

Lovely, clean and pure Cali Pinot. Again, not showing much age, but it is nicely integrated, so perhaps it is changing as it gets on in years (I didn't try this in its youth). Plenty of fruit here but not what I'd call a "big" Pinot. Pleasing, if a bit simple, flavor profile. Overall, a delightful bottle of wine. -

November 26, 2019 - Screwcap. 13.5% abv. Recent auction purchase.
Similar experiences to MEERLUST and SCOTTGOODWIN. Very light and acidic on the unscrew and pour. Not bad, but just not much to hold my interest, so I screwed the cap back on and revisited the next day. This helped the fruit emerge and it kept getting fuller as it got more air in glass. There's some red fruit, cola, spice, and a touch of bitterness that is often found in RRV Pinot (stems?). Does not show any age at all to me, probably owing to screw cap finish. Interesting to have tried this as I haven't had any Pinots with this kind of age under screw cap. Would suggest that this closure retards aging, but who knows, as I did not try this wine in its youth. Happy to have a couple more bottles of this to see what happens with more age. -

August 28, 2018 - Light violet center with ample orange/brick at the rim. Initially, this seemed tired and gasping for life with evident acidity, frail cherry notes, cola, and earth. After a couple hours of air, this blossomed into a deeper, more virile wine with cherry and raspberry as well as cola and mushroom. The acidity paired well with avacado soup, and the wine stood up to fresh BLT sandwiches. Overall, this needs air to show its full personality, but when it does, it is quite lovely. 87 to start and 90 by the end.

November 15, 2015 - Subtle nose. Nicely developed but not aged notes on the nose. Dusty cinnamon and red fruits. Palate is lacy and delicate. Red cherries and strawberries with subtle hints of cola. Moderate finish. But a very nice bottle of RRV PN that's held up well for 8 years.
