April 6, 2023 - Feels still young like a 05 or 07. Lots of fruit, cherry, and red fruits. Almost no tertiaries. Started to fade after some 30 minutes. We vacuumed the bottle after each glass, that was the right decision.

February 20, 2021 - Some old(-ish) Bordeaux from Alan's collection: Part of a mini-tasting of fairly random aged Bordeaux. This one served with the main course of beef roulade.

The fill level was well into the neck. The cork came out cleanly with my Durand, and had trace of wine about one-third up, but was not heavily soaked.

The nose is classic Margaux: slight sweet rich dark fruits (blackberries etc). However, the palate was initially not well-balanced, with acidity overwhelming the fruit and minimal evidence of tannins remaining. The finish was clean, but still a little acidic. It was OK with the rich beef, but not great.

We revisited the last third of the bottle maybe 60-90 minutes later with some cheese. Now we found the acidity somewhat moderated, still decent amounts of fruit, and a little more tannin showing. At this point is was a reasonably well-balanced food wine. If I had another bottle I would try decanting it for a while to see if it continued in a good direction.

EDIT: Alan tells me that the last glass from the bottle was, remarkably, still holding up well 48 hours later!

December 27, 2019 - Bottom neck fill. Another nice 1994 drinking very well now. Bought this given the recent reviews here. Pnp and this is immediately showing very well. A healthy garnet color without browning. nice red and dark fruit, forest floor, resolved tannins. A great claret which pairs beautifully with food now. Not entirely at the level of a recent 94 Lagrange (St. Julien) but still recommended if you can get this around the $40 mark. Starts to fade around the 90 min mark with initially coffee notes from the toast becoming more prominent and then acidity taking over. Would recommend to pnp over dinner/lunch and not wait too long.

June 26, 2016 - Sensationally high fill. Nose very margaux, delicate, crips cassis and cranberry fruit, in finesse. Very long, very stylish, purity, much better than expected. Give this a little air. No hurry.

April 20, 2013 - Dark red/black - tending to lighter red at the rim, with only a hint of orange. Light nose, smooth on the palate - almost creamy, tannins nicely resolved - a trifle light bodied, but well balanced, fresh but not acidic - drinking nicely now despite its age.

July 9, 2011 - 2.5 hours after opening this fine wine begs for a leg of lamb! Drank as part of a vertical tasting with the 95 and an 81. The tanins are still strong in the 94. My favorite of the three, as the 81 lost some of its vibrancy though it too got better after decanting.

July 1, 2011 - Creamy bouquet with oak, vanilla and white pepper. Mostly red and also still some dark berry fruits. Also vanilla and oak in the mouth, creamy and a firm amount of acidity. The tannin is soft and the wine has a little sweetness in the finish. It is not extremely full bodied and the finish is still ok, but I don't think this wine has much future; so if you still have it; drink soon.

May 17, 2009 - 1994 Château Prieuré-Lichine (Frankrijk, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux) Kleur: Robijnrood met een licht oranje randje Aroma / bouquet: Rijp, zacht kruidig, cederhout maar vooral zoethout, klein restje donker fruit (bramen, zwarte bessen). Fragiel, want vervliegt vrij snel. Smaak / Afdronk: Krachtig, nog volop overeind, veel concentratie en materie, boordevol prachtig ronde tannines, droppig / laurier, zwarte peper, veel lengte Algemeen / potentieel: Bouquet verdwijnt razendsnel, prachtige wijn maar 'sterft in het glas'. Smaak blijft echter overeind. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 10 + Smaak / Afdronk: 16 + Algemeen / potentieel: 7 = 88/100

March 28, 2009 - Bottle was stored in optimal conditions: in rack in temperature-contorolled cellar.
Upon opening, had sour taste. Possibly tannins, possibly past its prime. Virtually no smell to the nose.
After 1 hour, sourness decreased, and fruit emerged. Slight nose of fruit.
After 2 hours, wine was quite enjoyable with food, although not spectacular.
