August 22, 2020 - Very pleasantly surprised by the elegance of this. Subtlety reveals nuance. Blue and black fruit as expected but a lovely acidity, mild vanilla, very restrained use of oak. Leathery notes. Velvety texture. I could get used to this. Well done Napa.

April 12, 2017 - Tight and tannic right out of the bottle which settled into a lovely vixen with about an hr of air. 12 yrs old and I'd say it has another 10 yrs of development, if so desired. Deep dark fruits on the nose, licorice, sweet oak and green pepper on the nose. With air, tannins resolve and leave a perfect harmonious structure. Full bodied serious wine that is best enjoyed with food. Excellent.

March 22, 2014 - Decanted for several hours and blind tasted next to a 2005 Kobalt Cabernet. Nose of dark fruit was very similar for both wines. While the Kobalt was a good wine, the Etude was in a different league. Full bodied accompanied by great complexity, this wine provided a special and exceptional experience. Update 01/04/2015 - Starting to show some age...may be time to drink up.

November 3, 2013 - Popped and poured at Keste pizzeria in NYC. Superb bottle.

Tight and compact. Licorice and dark stoney fruits on the nose. Big whiff of vanilla, which tends to suggest that the oak monster is present. On the palette, the wine is streamlined and focused. The oak is fully integrated, delicate and in harmony with the wine. Tannins are broad and pronounced, providing a great frame for extended cellaring.

Excellent now, and still in it's prime. This will continue to evolve over the next 7 - 10 years, so there is no need to rush to consume.
