February 23, 2010 - It is always best to devote a night to really getting to know a bottle of wine from a great producer. Bottle, cork and fill all excellent. As is often the case with Lafarge, this is a reticent wine giving little at the outset. Poured into large (the big one) burg glasses, this slowly unwound and delivered a great experience. Austere at the start, it almost seemed more Cotes de Nuits in style. but slowly the earth and panopoly of scents emerged, constantly changing and ever more enticing. This style of wine needs to be appreciated slowly with food as the development is the whole experience (not a wine to waste in a line-up). We had this with pan-seared then grilled steak, but it would go well with birds etc.. Lafarge never disappoints the true burg lover.
