    January 25, 2016 - San Francisco Wine & Food Society Dinner - Burgundy Grapes on a Sea Voyage (Waterbar, 399 Embarcadero, San Francisco): Opened for several hours before serving alongside a 2008 Shea Wine Cellars, Pinot Noir and a 2009 Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir, Russian River. Lovely bright, dusky semi-transparent ruby colour. Nose is a pile of dirt....but lovely semi-damp dirt that tells you you are in Burgundy....hints of strawberry compote. Palate is bright, fresh, lots of strawberry and a really nice incense-oriented perfume. Nicely integrated but slightly tart acidity and a little dilute. Moderate length and no particular resonance.

    May 11, 2012 - A nice smokey and raspberry nose, silky tannins and smooth finish. A delicate wine and a great value Volnay. I must try and keep my last 5 bottles for a year or two as they are drinking so well now and the wine should drink well for a few more years

    April 16, 2012 - Not as great as the last few bottles but still a good bottle. Lovely fruit on the nose with a smokey and forest floor aroma. It was a tad thin and acidic and not enough silky tannins like previous. I still have 6 bottles so hope they are a bit better. Perhaps I needed to decant a good hour before and it was a touch cool. Still enjoyed drinking it though.

    April 3, 2012 - Very similar to last bottle, a little smokey on the nose and wonderful soft tannins and cherry fruits with a long finish, excellent value for money.

    March 2, 2012 - A good solid burgundy. Cherry and raspberry on the palate, a little acidity and smooth tannins. I should have let it breathe a little longer, just popped and drank, very enjoyable.
