February 14, 2019 - Surprising how much primary fruit is still showing. Just mellow, smooth & silky tannins with some slightly cooked fruit, primary fruit, and a touch of vegetal pepper. Very interesting for the low Garagiste price. Well worth $19.
July 14, 2018 - Near the end of its window. Was still quite good first night, but after 2 nights sitting in fridge, definitely had lost edge and gone a bit off. Don’t wait to finish any remaining bottles.
October 2, 2017 - I'm with Thealsups, I found this very fruit forward and pretty simple. Not hint whatsoever of the funk or over-the-hill-ness suggested by more recent reviews. I guess that's bottle variation, but there are certainly intact bottles out there. Was it good? Not particularly. In fact, I would have preferred a bit more funk or secondary/tertiary notes. Still, for $20 with pizza on a weeknight, it was more than acceptable.
February 19, 2017 - Way past age, and yet Garagiste just offered it. Try this wine as one that isn't cellar worthy! Time does NOT necessarily improve a wine, and this is a case in point...although to be fair, I didn't have this wine in its youth so perhaps always jug wine?
In the words of my wife, this smells like "ballsack." Out of the bottle with time secondary nuances develop but you're adding truffle and mushroom to ballsack, and a tartness in the palate emerges, I think sour cherry. We dumped the second half of the bottle. If you want to know what a bottle of way past age (I had the '43 recently) Haut Batailley taste like, the. This wine will show you the flaws of that 43 HB.
September 11, 2016 - Thin but still some fresh fruit. Well made, just inn the downside now.
September 4, 2016 - Start out very fruit forward and didn't change much over the 3 hours it was open. A fine wine but not overly complex.
August 17, 2016 - About done, but lot of character left. Pop and pour. Does not need air.
April 26, 2016 - upon first opening, it was "interesting" - not a lot of fruit, strangely still a fair amount of tannin, but it was at least enthralling because of its age (i don't have many wines this old). but it was not spectacular. decanted. next day after decanting it was significantly deteriorated. i wouldn't say it was "off" but i feel that this wine is past its prime.
i recommend it with food, and don't decant, and drink immediately after opening...
November 25, 2010 - Balanced and lighter than most Graves I am used to, good minerality, dried earthy oak notes, cassis and blueberry fruits and clean finish. Lovely.
