December 2, 2018 - Second bottle of a half-case bought en primeur for our wedding year - one bottle to be opened every 5 years. This was our 10th anniversary bottle, shared with our good friends L and R. It still needs some time yet, but it developing into a beautiful bottle. The palate had a lovely Pomerol perfume of prunes, plums and fragrant spice kissed with just a touch of green tobacco, a touch of florals, and just that growing hint of earthiness. Lovely. The palate had a voluptuous softness to it that I loved, all plush, velvety tannins and fresh acidity wrapped around a core of round plummy fruit, and then a midpalate lined with streaks of minerality. This then led into a lip-smackingly long finish full of yummy spice and savoury herb flavours. There was a wonderful sense of focus, balance and definition to the whole thing, which bodes well for its long-term future, but even now, it was delicious. Great stuff, full of gentle, effortless complexity.

November 16, 2018 - A real surprise in an otherwise fruity vintage. This has taken on a beautiful, bright, red fruited character with great richness in an otherwise weightless frame. Sweet tannins carry the fruit to a supple finish. A beauty.

November 8, 2018 - The nose was a gorgeous display of dusty dried flowers with crushed black raspberry, sweet spice and hints of animal musk. On the palate, I found a zesty expression on a medium-bodied frame, showing dark red and blue fruits guided by brisk acidity. The finish was long, with palate-staining sweet-and-sour berries, notes of savory herbs and hints of fine tannin.

October 6, 2018 - On opening, decanted. Great colour. Very glossy. Slightly subdued nose, but with a definite fresh mushroom note and a hint of truffle. Not barnyard, but definitely mushroom. On the palate, rather subdued and a bit hollow to start, and not easily identifiable as predominantly merlot.
Decanted for one hour, and more notes of typical merlot start emerging. Plums. The mushrooms recede. A bit of briary dark fruit. On the palate, rather subtle limestone and mineral notes. Really great balance. Seems to get bigger on the length than on the attack.
After 2.5 hours, the nose is typical merlot, red apple peel. On the palate, fine tannins, dry middle, mineral, sour cherry. Long finish.
Three hours. Some baking spices and Chinese spices start to show through on the nose. Still red apple nose.
4 hours, a little mushroom returns to the nose. Otherwise, the red apple peel remains.
Five hours. More of the same, but tannins getting more pronounced, finer, and more persistent. Dry finish. Very long.
This will be stunning years to come.
Throw it back in the cellar and wait until 2020.

September 17, 2018 - Seemingly young, with strong notes of licorice, espresso, smoke and truffle to fill the air. Concentrated, full bodied and layered with ripe, sweet, dark plum and cherry notes, give this a few more years before you start popping corks.

(Chateau Hosanna Pomerol) Fine fruit on the nose here, crystalline, gently sweet, with a lovely sweet and broad texture to the fruit on the palate. Good, nicely polished tannins, very firm acids, An aromatic finish, quite seamlessly textured, with very good potential. Really attractive and full of promise.
