January 24, 2024 - Still a flavor bomb. Very smooth tannins. I don’t see anything bad or off with this wine. Great way to experience aged wine. 1997 was an excellent vintage. Finished 3 bottles over 2023. Just purchased two more bottles for upcoming dinners. Getting a bit expensive at $397. My first few bottles were $297. For the $397, you can get the 2013 vintage which was also excellent and will still age. One of the 1997 bottles I consumed, the cork fell apart while opening. An aerator with screen saved the day. The wine was fine. Very smooth tannins, lots of fruit and very long finish.

November 10, 2023 - Still tastes very good. Had flank steak Gouda cheese and salad. If priced right, will buy more.

September 28, 2022 - Just the slightest hint of lighter red color at the rim
The nose is musty/green tomato but with sweet dark fruit breaking thru
On the palate the wine is round rich and long with black cherry and black raspberry and a good amount of spicy tannin at the finish
Definitely a palate-coating and tooth-staining kind of wine
Despite it's age and being a "second wine" this is an excellent bottle and will be for another 10 years. Thoroughly enjoyable

July 2, 2022 - PNP. Deep blood red. Big juicy plum and extracted fruits with mocha notes, orange rind, cassis and shaved bark. The wine definitely needs to be drunk in the near future if you still have any left. As the 2nd wine of Harlan, the structure is there but this wine seems to have a 20 year lifespan.

p.s. waygu filets with roasted cauliflower and Bibb lettuce salad

January 12, 2022 - Open that bottle - Dan chooses 1997 The Maiden (My house): 30 minute decant. The profile seems dark and yet there is a lot of red fruit and acid. Spicy, leather, it has that soft Harlan structure that is both interesting and comforting.
