    July 18, 2016 - 4 hour decant.
Reasonable wine, but nothing much special about it.

July 22, 2014 - Dark inky purple. Still feels oddly young and in need of development. Tight harsh tannins. Slightly medicinal nose. Plums, persimmons, jammy candy and green wood. From the list, Eddie V's Austin.

January 16, 2014 - Purple core with red at the edges. Full body. The wine is marked by dense black fruit; firm, slightly coarse tannins; and a decent acidic bite. There is some creaminess, with mineral and clove notes in the background. Overall a nice wine, especially with an hour of air. Another good Portuguese value; likely at its best now.

May 20, 2013 - Ripe, rich, and dark-fruited nose is slightly marred by a bit of heat. The palate is smooth and fairly thick with dark and jammy fruit, spice, and a bit more heat. A pretty good, pretty simple, pretty big Douro red.

December 12, 2012 - Full fruit forward red with dark berries, cocoa, and plum. Moderate tannins and acidity balance it out nicely. Since tannins are not overly aggressive, pairs nicely with anything from beef to hardy veggies to chicken.

(Quinta do Crasto Douro Red) From 20-year-old vines (Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Franca, and Touriga Nacional). A young, fruit-driven wine, it has little or no contact with oak. A vibrant plum color and a nose of strawberry and black cherry lead to a medium-bodied palate with ripe black fruit. Balanced and smooth. Winery Spotlight: Quinta do Crasto

(Quinta do Crasto Douro, Portugal) This blend of 35% Tinta Roriz, 25% Tinta Barroca, 25% Touriga Franca, and 15% Touriga Nacional will satisfy Cabernet fans, Syrah lovers, and Malbec groupies. As I pulled the cork, I was expecting an earth-driven, powerful wine with gripping tannins and high alcohol; much to my surprise, I found a medium-bodied, approachable, fruity wine with soft, silky tannins. Deep purple in color, it offers aromatics of blackberry jam, plum, black cherry, coffee, and chocolate, with hints of licorice and black pepper. The palate confirms the nose, but adds a touch of smokiness, vanilla, and butterscotch on the juicy, long finish. I would pair this with beef, pork, or pasta with red sauce, or put a slight chill on it and take it out to the picnic table for your barbecue. This wine will easily age for 10-15 years. (Quinta do Castro Douro) #3; VaynerPAZZZ; COLOR-dark; NOSE-a little tight, but clear raspberry and some floral action; PALATE-quite oaked; a little light; and it disappeared quickly; very smooth; GV-83
