March 13, 2024 - Deep crimson in color. Dark blue and deep red fruits waft from the glass. Followed by dark cherries, with some allspice. Typical great Napa Cab! Group said it was the best Dunn Napa they had tasted. Drinking perfectly now.
January 3, 2024 - Moderately aggressive decant. Brambles, wild blackcurrant vie with earth, meaty and oxidised notes (caramel and bruised apple) on the nose with sweet spices, a little boot polish and slight alcohol prickle in support. On the palate it's juicy, savoury, fresh acid, fruit profile as per palate, powdery tannins. Alcohol lends warmth on the finish. As per earlier tastings it feels a little flat. I think I got to this a little late: it has really fallen off the cliff for me in the last year...
December 28, 2023 - From a magnum. One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Significant sediment in both the screen and the bottle. Muted aromas of black currant and lead pencil during decant. Wine was clear; uniform dark crimson from bowl to rim with a medium halo. After resting, quartz notes joined the party in the nose. In the mouth: older-styled Napa Cabernet with good structure (tannins had softened but were not yet gone) and tremendous balance. Medium-long finish of restrained black fruit and lead pencil. I brought this wine to celebrate the holidays with some of my "wine friends" and it did not disappoint them or the staff with whom we shared. Wish I had another!
December 10, 2023 - three of the 6 bottles I had left from the original case were bad. I knew there was trouble when the cork broke off 1/4 of an inch from the bottom. Both were bad. The other two were excellent however.
November 18, 2023 - Wine party at Normanton. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl 1855.
Soy sauce dominant on nose and palate. Heat damaged.
August 27, 2023 - Quickley double decanted to remove sediment. Shared with tasting group the wine was a hit. Good balance but on the plush side just a bit for a Dunn? Thought the structure was a bit ahead o0f the fruit still. Not sure I can see it get better.
August 13, 2023 - Dan Murphy's random tasting (Dan Murphy's, Martin Place): From Coravin. Chalky minerality, touch of caramel oxidation, meaty, savoury underpin, slight baking spice, black hued fruit is a touch dried out. Juicy, drying, slightly coarse woody tannins, fruit present but finishes a touch short. Drink up
August 7, 2023 - Decanted briefly. Fully mature, delicious if a bit faded. Drink up.
May 1, 2023 - elegant wine, don't see it improving from here but still satisfying. pnp
March 7, 2023 - Wide open and ready to go! Pretty forward and open for a Dunn. The word chocolate comes to mind but I still enjoyed it
