March 11, 2023 - A second wine from Chateau Mouton Rothschild. A fresh and powerful Le Petit Mouton from a wild and quite difficult vintage, made from a blend of 94% CS and 6% Merlot. Medium+ intensity aroma of cassis, graphite, blackberries, wet earth, incense. Medium+ body, rich and bursting with freshness, feels slightly tight and restrained at first, but unfurls after few hours, becoming more elegant and feminine with pure and expressed black fruits along cedar and herbal nuances, concludes with ripe tannins and long finish.

November 15, 2020 - My one and only bottle ... took it out and tucked it away again so many times ... but not last night !

    + Preparation : drank over period of two days ( day 1 = 1/2 bottle in decanter + day 2 = 1/2 bottle straight pour )
+ Color : showing no age whatsoever, impenetrable deep red
+ Nose : initially very lactic ( rich cream ), but that blew off rapidly. Lots of chocolate, tobacco leaves, dried "herbes de Provence".
Dried leather, it smells very butch and manly. Didn't get that rich deep fruit, but everything was nicely toned down and dried.
+ Taste : some contract with the nose, more subtle, feminine, layered, again some more chocolate and very herbal.
Still quite some spice there as well, slightly bitter, crunchy & chewy at the same time, licorice, more dark fruits.
+ Finish : again, very herbal, medium till long aftertaste, slightly more chubby then in mouth, jammy.

Another great bottle of Mouton produce. Lucky to buy at affordable price, don't follow price setting for this nowadays.

    Mathijs

September 14, 2019 - Decanted and aerated for about 90 minutes but this wine clearly needs more time to open up. Deep crimson color and very youthful looking, a very exotic nose of spices, old leather, prunes and dark fruits. On the palate quite powerful, masculine, very strong backbone, a hint of herbaceousness but nothing too pronounced. Good balance and structure and a nice tannic finish. Enjoyable now but should evolve over the next 5-10 years.

September 17, 2018 - Strict, a bit firm and under-ripe, there is a distinctive, herbal edge to the crisp red fruits and firm tannins on the palate. With 94% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend, this is the highest percentage of Cabernet used in any vintage of Le Petit Mouton.

September 12, 2018 - It's a dinner hosted by Chateau Mouton in which served Mouton 1998, Mouton 2005, Le patit Mouton 2008, Clerc Milon 2009, D'Armailhac 2010 and 2011. To me, the best wine is D'Armailhac 2011 and Mouton 2005.

D'Armailhac gives you nice strong wet leather flavor and on palate with a heavy body but quite smooth. Mid finish. 92

Mouton 2005 also gives you leather flaver with more minerality. Smooth and round. Finish is a little bit longer. 92

Actually, the other three are quite similar to Mouton 2005, but not so smooth and so well balanced. Some are more salty, some have more acidity, etc. I give D'Armailhac 2010 -- 91, Clerc Milon 2009-- 91, Peteit Mouton 2008 -- 91, and Mouton 1998 -- 92.

March 4, 2018 - PnP. Medium garnet color. Lead pencil and cassis on the nose. Very young and a bit unyielding. Charcoal cassis. Smooth and refined. A bit short on the finish.

July 4, 2015 - Quite elegant and round perfumes in the nose, cherries, leather, mints, green peppers, lavenders, roses, violets, and smoked wood; chunky and juicy but not particularly complex and lacking some elegancy on the palate, berries, cherries, citrus fruits, licorice, and some wet sandalwood; long finish, with noticeable ripe tannins; overall, 92-93 points at this stage; probably still needed a few more years to evolve further.

October 8, 2012 - Tasted this during the Master Class with Baron- Philippe de Rothschild Chateaux @ St Regis, Singapore.

Wine is made up of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot.

The second wine of the Chateau Mouton Rothschild.

This wine possess an impressive attack on entry. Lovely dark red colour with a violet tint, this wine offers a rich and complex nose on which fresh red and black fruit mingle with spice and vanilla notes. Roundness on the palate, together with subtle touches of cedarwood and spice.

    An excellent wine.
