June 23, 2020 - Lovely and mature Grand Annee. I would say it is pretty close to its peak now. Golden colour, complex nose with some gunpownder and ripe fruits. Long and balanced on the palate with nice acidity.

December 31, 2019 - Fantastic! Clearly mature, golden colour. Very soft and in the Bollinger house style, a hint of oxidenation. Still plenty of fizz, with a persistant finish.

December 1, 2019 - Lovely, toasty, mature fizz. Great balance between weight and acidity. Probably not going to improve from here. Very nice for what it is but probably not my thing, prefer something a bit leaner.

November 26, 2019 - Medlar dinner, November 2019 (Medlar, Chelsea): Quickly evident that this bottle was in a really good place: inviting but no lack of acidity or structure; well poised between fruit and tertiary notes; mousse is persistent but not insistent. Could easily have polished off several glasses.

(Bollinger La Grande Année) A beautifully polished golden hue here, and with a moderate sized bead this is quite energetic still. Aromatically it suggests golden fruits with a very well developed secondary seam, redolent of autumn apples, honeyed and creamy. This seems more complete and suggestive of flesh than some of the other vintages tasted here. Very nicely composed on the palate; it has come together in a fine and relaxed style since tasted at Bollinger two years ago. Rather forward flavours, soft and gently appley at first, much more intense in the middle, heading into a clean and vibrant finish. A subtle oxidative vein for bollinger but I suspect this will become more prominent with maturity. Excellent.

(Bollinger Grande Année) Bright and vibrant fruit here on the nose of this cuvée with which I am becoming increasingly familiar. A fine, harmonious, very complete style, with an impressively supple texture to go along with it. Deeply flavoured. Still quite tight at the finish, but overall an excellent wine.

(Bollinger Grande Année) As always this is a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the former predominant (in a ratio of 2:1) in keeping with the house style. No Pinot Meunier here. The fruit is all sourced from grand cru and premier cru vineyards. We sampled two bottles of this vintage, the first in the main tasting and the second over lunch. This was fortuitous as I found this first bottle to be somewhat awkward, tight and withdrawn, with a whisp of sulphur still evident, although I know others found it acceptable or even very good. The fruit had a honey crunch to it, crisp and creamy at the same time, with a firm but generous quality and a precise mousse. I would have scored this bottle 17.5+/20, but the second was more convincing than that. This example, perhaps an earlier disgorgement, had a much more elegant style, with more finely defined crystalline fruit. Excellent wine.

(Bollinger Grande Année) Stony and mineral on the nose, and it is showing a trace of fading sulphur too. The palate is quite fleshy, open, flavoursome and accessible which is a little surprising. The fruit profile is slightly exotic, with nice stone fruit elements, and a little thyme and lemon cream. A full and bright mousse, and a nice seam of lemony acid at the core. Good style, drinking soon.
