June 6, 2014 - Maybe it is the age, but this was more Old World in character than we expected. The nose was about earth, spice and orange peel while the palate was dark and meaty with only hints of sweet fruits. The acidity was up front and the tannins soft but structured. Add the nice finish and this was a very enjoyable wine with dinner.

September 9, 2012 - Cork withdrawn intact. Purple stain with about 5mm cork bleed. The wine didn't have much aroma out of the bottle. This one was popped and poured. The initial nose was minerals, blueberry and cedar. Had an aged nose. The wine poured a dark garnet color. In the glass was more minerality. On the entry was blueberry blackberry, with smoke. The mid-palate was dominated by your Howell Mountain sweet fruits, coriander, cedar and some light spice. Definitely a Howell Mountain body. As the bottle opened up over an hour to 90 minutes, the mid-palate was more of an aged spice. The finish was actually very short, showing some light sediment and very soft tannins. The one thing I noticed like ekirby mentioned is that this one doesn't have as much of the brambly fruit and it really didn't have that much floral on the nose either. Because of this I subtracted a few on the rating. I think the elegant natural characteristics of Howell Mtn kind of killed these characteristics, but they're welcomed to CF lovers like me. Threw quite a bit of sediment. This wine is just about done - 1-2 more years before it's over. Drink now.

April 28, 2012 - Well made Cab Franc, a bit lacking on the bramble fruits that Cab Francs can have (and that I like). Earthy, dried fruit but not well resolved, i.e. somewhat rough, especially when compared to a CdP we drank prior (and cost only 1/2 as much). Should only cost 1/2 of what I paid. As this has 9 yrs on it, will have to check to see if worth holding for a few more years.
