January 8, 2017 - Deep garnet. Wonderful aroma of sweet cherry, violets, orange peel, tar. On the palate the tannin is still high but resolved and fine. The acid is wonderfully high. The flavours are not quite as concentrated as expected, but it has only been opened a few minutes ago. They mirror the nose and are very elegant and attractive... long finish.

December 24, 2016 - Served alongside roasted lamb, Peking Duck and honey-coated duck legs. Morello cherries, worn-out leathers, sotto bosco and gingerbread dominate the bouquet. After some additional aeration in the glass, also notes of plums, cloves, some amarena cherries, mushrooms, dried rose petals and raspberries. This wine is quite finely woven and treads very lightly on the palate. On the other hand I’d say that it has always been rather light-footed and elegant than being of the flamboyant sort. Fresh acidity, almost completely resolved, fine-grained tannins, medium-bodied, 13.5%, raspberries, tart cherries and other red fruits, with a touch of licorice. Very sophisticated. Medium to long-lasting finish. Drink now.

Jetzt trinken.

April 22, 2016 - Pnp to drink with homemade lasagna. This is holding pretty well. A dark plum color with slight orange bricking. Faint aromas of dried herbs, and subtle floral notes. On the palate the tannins are polished, and are well integrated without dryness. This has vibrant acidity to cleanse the palate and fill out a finish consisting of dried herbs, orange peel, light smokiness, and black currant.

Solid now and should hold well until it hits 30.

Day 2 - remained polished though the wine was a bit dry.

November 7, 2015 - Fantastic bottle. Slow ox for 5 hours and continued to improve with airtime. Seductive and deeply complex throughout. Dark fruit, savory herbs, truffle, bitter chocolate, orange zest, and tart cherry. Elegant, seemless texture. Remarkable finish. Outstanding example of Barolo.

December 2, 2010 - 1996: Barolo Retrospective (Tolani, Wine Restaurant, 410 Amsterdam Ave, New York, New York, 10024): 1996 Michele Chiarlo Barolo Cannubi showed mushrooms and tar with wild berries and a hint of oak on the nose. On the palate, I found sour cherry, soil and leather strap with a bit of menthol. The finish was a little short but pleasant all the same.

July 16, 2009 - BBQ Gary, Rona, RJ and gang – Wow, what a gem. A lovely Barolo just entering a beautiful drinkability window. Explosive on the nose with milk chocolate, espresso and mocha. Also lots of scorched earth and tarry goodness. Very refreshing and still youthful on the palate, with oodles of dark fruit and sexy chocolatey goodness.

June 28, 2009 - nose: still fairly tight with lovely and balanced tones of rich red cherries, some bits of tar, roses, and lots of herbs with some bits of dark bitter chocolate. There is a good richness to this that has been tamed with time, and there isn't a real heavy oak presence and has seemed to integrate with time

taste: high acidity makes its mark with medium/high tannins. A nice rich feel with tones of red cherries, herbs, spices, and some bits of tar with a nice touch of roses that emerges with more air

overall: still needs a bit of time to really get going. Relatively tight right now, and this was on the second day, so one should show some patience with it as with many other 96s
