February 3, 2020 - NobleRottersSydney - 2005 Oz reds (360 Bar & Dining, Sydney): {screwcap, 13%} [Graeme] Looks its age, with a hint of brick at the rim. Floral blackberry and leather nose, sweet-tinged. An acid-driven wine, with composting red fruit flavours with spice at full maturity, little oak, low/medium chalky tannins, resolving to an even palate and a medium length finish which showcases the sweetness of age as it sits. Lovely and pretty to drink, but just a little bit on the simple side. Might hold a while too.

    February 22, 2019 - Excellent, superb wine. 13% alc.
    Colour:red berry, garnet
Bouquet: developed aged nose, left herbs, sweet peppers and currants, cigar box, a little jammy
Palate: lovely developed fruit, dusty fine grain tannins, currants, cherries, dark fruits, medium-bodied, nice long finish. So elegant.

February 21, 2019 - {screwcap, 13%} Garnet/bricking colour. Looks right. Lovely aged nose, of slightly leafy herbs and curranty cigar box. But, it has a really sweet jammy overtone to it, I must say. Sweet compost. The palate is quite advanced, with medium prickly/spritzy acid, and fine low level dusty tannins. Still, it does seem undeniably sweet, sugar sweet. It's medium-bodied, fairly even on the palate, although there's a bit of a mid-palate hole for me; needs more shiraz! Medium length finish, but it does rather cloy somewhat. Nothing to be gained from further cellaring, but no hurry to drink either. Climate change would have done wonders for Virgin Hills if it still had the same owners as 30 years ago...

August 14, 2017 - Not as hard going as the '03. There's black currant, red cherries, blueberries and smokey notes on the nose. The palate has the same tart, bitter finish as the '03, but in a more digestible form. That said, it's still not very nice and I wouldn't buy a bottle unless you like the taste of lemon juice :)

February 18, 2017 - The wine was crimson and purple in colour. On the nose was predominantly blueberry with cranberry and sandalwood. Palate was raspberry, blueberry and forest floor.

A very elegant wine with a nice perfume.
Sealed by stelvin, its drinking beautifully right now.

February 18, 2017 - Very nice, exuberant sweet blackcurrant nose with just a hint of development - the nose is definitely the best bit. Quite big in the mouth. Good mouthfeel, plenty of fruit, some development, very smooth, okay length, a bit of grip on the finish. A tad acidic perhaps. Nice enough, but certainly no wow factor.
