June 22, 2011 - note consistent with a couple weeks ago. i tried this after being open for >12 hours this time and got more dark olives and garrigue than fruit. still a pleasant drink for everyday meals.

June 13, 2011 - passed thru vinturi, color dark crimson with purplish hue. nose showing garrigue, licorice, and a hint of reduction. on the palate, this has a lighter feel despite the density of fruit. tannins are modest, and finish is medium. i think that this is a very versatile wine, and a great house pour. i prefer this to the '08.

    Appearance is clear medium ruby.

Nose is clean, medium with fruit and spice.

Palate is dry, medium alc. Body is medium, palate is medium, acid is medium. Finish is short with fruit intensity not outlasting tannin and acidity. Flavor follows through from the nose.

Overall the wine is short and simple, but all the better for it. Well made, and if the price is $9 or less, of substantial drinking quality. Many non-French wine drinkers will note the tannin and breath of acidity.

    Syrah.

November 27, 2010 - Dark red with purple hints. Nose of smoke, black pepper, blackberry, and bay. Black pepper and blackberry with smoky garrige dominate a lean mid-palate and medium finish. This is solid, satisfying, and holding well. Drink or hold.

August 31, 2010 - Co-op with larger holdings -- 800 acres, modern production, "reasoned" agriculture, hand harvested. Medicinal, pencil lead on the nose, some oak showing off on the nose. Nate notes great spiciness of the Carignan, and I would agree. A bit reductive and mean on the bottle opening. Young, needing time. Works at $12, easy going.
