January 21, 2018 - Vatan Vertical (TDS): Oh my. The nose is straight up fireworks with endless amounts of rich white fruit, loads of mineral and citrus oil. At one big, rich and round yet racy and electric. Delicious, and long, long, long across the palate. Second favorite in our 9-vintage vertical.

January 21, 2018 - Vatan-a-thon at TDS (Chicago, IL): A great showing. Brilliant aromatics - the classic pale citrussy fruit, rock quarry minerality, and more exotic herbal/minty notes, and a palate that manages to balance palate-staining intensity with a remarkable sense of lightness and finesse. This is flavour without weight, and each sip goes on for ages. Great, great wine.

January 21, 2018 - Vatan (2002 rouge, 2004-12) (Chicago, IL): This was another brilliant vintage of this wine. The nose has a touch of green, but no overt grassiness like the 2007 (though there's a sweet gooseberry note). What stands out here is the intensity of this wine. It feels like everything is more alive, more amped up. There's a current running through this wine. It's packed with nervous energy and raw power.

October 7, 2016 - First try, blindly for my guest, was completely shut. After two days opened. It starts to show fresh vegetal, young blackcurrant tree bud. Mouth is straight, dense and quite bitter. Superstructure, overtaking an oily core, makes this sharp weird wine. Very interesting, surprising from what you expect for a Sauv'. I'm unable to say if needs cellar. But decant is essential.

October 2, 2016 - Tasted blind. Very discrete nose. Chardonnay-like with tart apples and lemon. Tastes tannic and closed. Oily texture perhaps from barrel aging? This is completely shut down but I can sense that there is something big lurking in the background, but it's not ready to reveal itself.
