Community Tasting Notes 5

June 15, 2018 - Tasted at the winery. A hot red cherry note on the nose that faded the longer this wine was open, evolving into a cherry, earth spice mix. More on the light bodied side (12.5% ABV) with red cherry fruit upfront that seemed more open than the 2004, but noticeably lighter in weight. The back shows some light spices and earth notes coupled with light acidity and tannins. The 2007 had noticeably less acidity and tannins overall, leaving the wine feeling very accessible, but almost exposed. The fruit is still supporting the wine on its own for now, but the 2007 doesn't have the concentration or complexity to sustain this long term. Very educational to see the evolving style used with this grape and how that held up in different vintage conditions.

July 7, 2014 - - Crimsom color with fast forming legs and aromas of cut green grass, eucalyptus, tea, blackberry and black currant. It's overly acidic and has flavours of violet, mushroom and bell pepper with a light body. Narrow texture with a medium finish - Great example of age, though modern wiemer cab francs will likely age better. This is a bit unbalanced, though fantastically drinkable. A bit stemmy in spots, but very minor note. Acidic and alcoholic. Out of balance, but interesting.

May 3, 2014 - Popped and poured. Pleasant aromas of cedar and earth, with blackberry notes. Pure, clean flavors of black fruit, forest floor up front. Some spicy tang in the lingering finish.

Reminiscent of good Loire Cabernet Franc. Great balance, with earthy, mild vegetal notes that add to the complexity without detracting from the dominant fruit flavors. Lacks the depth of the best of the Loire, but certainly holds its own in terms of quality.

Excellent wine, excellent value. Wish I had bought more.

June 1, 2012 - This wine started out very well. A nose of cedar and fruit, pleasant in the mouth, with a slight tartness and a round finish. However, it seemed short lived and did not stand up well throughout dinner. Nevertheless, I'd try some more of this food friendly well balanced wine.

November 29, 2010 - Bitter taste. Not what I expected.
