April 16, 2023 - Last of six brought ex-Domain a decade or so ago, and by far the best, after a double decant and rested for an hour this was really singing, the aromatics were evocative, still lovely fruit but mingled with some earth and smoke, some fine textural tannins remain to give it a velvety feel. Pretty much classic burgundy, in such a great place now, should keep for a fair few years still

December 18, 2021 - Cork soaked through so not the best bottle I think. Attractive red-fruited nose but on the palate this was all structure and tannins. Despite the masculinity, it had a very elegant mouthfeel but with air it developed a liquorice note that I didn't like. An old-school Burgundy in the Faiveley mould.

October 22, 2019 - 9th of 12, opened 45 minutes, perfect cork and level, still on strong upward trajectory with tannins largely integrated with fruit intensity and persistence noteworthy and aromatically fine and complex, some silk as well, good for at least 10 years. F+ (18).

May 27, 2019 - 8th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, relative to last bottle in 17 tannins better integrated, more graceful and more on black fruit than red if at the expense of power, turning more transparent and light footed, attractive minerality, bags of life. F (17.5).

January 12, 2019 - This is very enjoyable though interesting. The nose is beautiful mature Burgundy with forest floor, sous bois, mushroom, dark fruits, leather, crushed rock, dried violet, orange peel. The palate is good but has a bit of rusticity and rough edges. The tannins are still present and not suave per se. the acidity is a bit tangy but the fruit is still quite nice. This definitely needs food to smooth it out and is quite good at the table.

December 15, 2017 - I was so pleased with this wine. It had great body and wonderful balance. The deep red fruit was prominent but not out of balance with the earthiness or acidity in any way. Just delicious all the way through the palate. It did start to slip a bit after finishing it off a couple of hours later, but just open it 30 min prior to a meal and it should be lovely.

July 27, 2017 - 7th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect level, travel up half cork, pretty much as my last note, attractive, red fruit driven bouquet and palate slightly spoiled by lumpy dry tannins which may never fully integrate, plenty of life. Just about F (17.5).....similar note for 6th bottle in Jan '16.

    September 23, 2016 - My first experience w this producer/vineyard.
    Plenty of life remaining.
The end of the metallic nose is unmistakeable.
There's a maturity to the initial palate which begs more attention.
I get no discernible fruit but plenty of tannin and solid finish.
    Ok bye.

March 5, 2016 - An Evening at the Rock Pile-Trimbach Riesling and de Montille Volnay Taillepieds (San Francisco): Deep ruby, very primary looking. Piercing wintergreen and mint. More generous than the '88 but still built in a sleek style with no fat. More fruit than you would think, some additional flesh over time, but still strongly mineral black fruit with tannic finish. Still on its way up, but I can't see it improving much from here.

    September 25, 2015 - Color: medium red
    Nose: meaty bouquet, black cherry
Palate: still young! Powerful burg but has finesse, this is a more masculine burg, savory
