  December 12, 2023 - Nose: green apple, caramel, fig, honey, white flower
  Notes: Opened for 1.5 hours and started drinking. The first pour had quite some green apple aroma in it. The amazing thing about this is how it can be crispy and ripe at the same time so this indeed is a very favorable combination. For extra brut I always think the key is to get a right balance on the acidity profile as very often it can be a little overwhelming if not well made. This Clos des Goisses seems to have done a perfect job in creating a sophisticated and it is drinking quite nicely now, I suspect this can last for quite some time more but it's already starting to be in the prime drinking window.

  September 28, 2023 - Four decades of Penfolds Grange (Chicago, IL): Apparently everyone thought that this bottle was corked when it was opened. Well, it wasn't by the time I got to it a few hours later. Sure, it's not a particularly convincing bottle of champagne -- kind of heavyset and lacking subtlety. Lots of fruit and relatively low acid, and definitely carrying some of the typical Goisses weirdness. I'm less bullish on this than I was in my previous note a few years back.

  October 9, 2021 - Excellent showing of this, got lots of nods at the table. Mature with beautiful notes of bruised apples, orchard fruit, some earthy elements as well. Structured, fine perlage. I like high quality Pinot-led old Champagne like this one. They feel like a refined mature white Burg with Champagne aromatics and less alcohol and no premox problems. What's not to like.

  May 24, 2021 - Warren's. Hazy memory from several days later, but this had Dr. Phil's classic peachy richness and yet had enough acidity to hold together. Tons of depth--any worries I had about a 2003 going the distance were unfounded. Overall excellent.
