Community Tasting Notes 3

June 30, 2012 - Raveneau Foret and 2007 Tollot Beaut (Arlequin Wine Merchant, San Francisco): Light with a pale edge. Purer red fruit Pinot nose than the Chorey. Medium weight, average acidity, some earth. Again, the fruit on the palate is overrun by the wood char, which is at the very core of the wine.

February 27, 2012 - Nose: Beautiful, bright, dusty red berries with a slight green streak and barrel toast lurking back there. Palate: Cherries, cranberries, crushed gravel on the cool and bright attack. Slightly astringent tannins and some seriously puckering acidity show up on the mid-palate. Cranberries and green peppers linger on the finish.

I wanted something cool and refreshing tonight so I reached for this bottle and was not disappointed. Seamless and integrated this wine isn't, but the underlying material is good if high-toned pinot is what you're after. I'd let these sleep for at least a few more years though... and you'll end up with a bright and lithe wine with good fruit character.

July 1, 2010 - Initial impression pure pinot. Strawberry, somewhat perfumed. But also lead pencil (but not as heavy as asphalt). After a while we in chorus say chanterelles! A very attractive nose, surrounded by a nice oakiness. The taste is spritzy with good acidity. Dense and modern in style. Weakens slightly towards the end, the dry tannins left hanging without any fruit.
