November 12, 2017 - Second Sunday Group: 2012 v 2013 Napa Cabernets (Our house): Pineapple, mango and light stone fruit notes. Very lean on lacking fruit on the palate. Not one of the better examples of this wine that we have had.

September 17, 2017 - Nico's Night of Wonders (Chez Siggy & Jenny's Place, Mpls, MN): Medium amber color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. An even better pairing to Candie's apple bourbon cake was my bonus bottle, if I do say so myself. Mature and in great shape, this bottle had everything going on tonight. A fun comparison to the young and pristine '02 d'Yquem, both are completely different at their stages of evolution. The Rieussec is filled with citrus, orange, orange marmalade, apricot, honey and plenty of botrytis spiciness. The palate is layered and beautifully textured and offers that wonderfully spice long finish. Last bottle was over 3 years a go, and this was even better.

August 26, 2017 - The sweetness was reduced quite a bit but still very rich. Dripping stone fruit, honey, jasmine, a little mineral oil. Could still age longer but I fear the fruit might start to fade in the coming years.

January 6, 2017 - I bought this bottle 12 years ago, together with a Rieussec 1990 which was great to drink in 2005. Stored this bottle in a wine fridge since then. Opened the bottle about two weeks ago, drank half of it and kept the other half in the regular fridge, sealed by a vacuum stopper. This was even better to drink after those two weeks. The wine has a cognac colour and a lovely bouquet, is delicious to drink, rich and buttery, sweet. Had this with duck and goose mousse. Great wine. 95p

(Château Rieussec) Light medium apricot color; apple, apple brandy, apricot, tangerine, pear, apricot strudel nose; tasty, baked orange, apricot, apricot honey, tart orange, creme brulee palate with good acidity, needs 3-5 years yet; long finish

(Chateau Rieussec (Sauternes)) An appealing colour although not the most concentrated of golden hues here. The nose has an evolved botrytis character which holds some promise, and on the palate it has more of this apricot-tinged sweetness, although I sense it is a little drier than I expected. There is a nice presence of acidity but it is not the most forthright, giving it a rather soft feel. Good flavour though, and a nicely tangible substance on the palate, with a light grip. Plenty of presence and style, but just a rather soft Sauternes feel to it, especially lined up against Huet's Cuvée Constance in the same vintage. And yet there is probably more evolution to come in terms of flavour and aroma here.
