January 14, 2012 - Corked, ugh! This looked quite youthful and there were tantalizing signs of what might have been.

August 23, 2011 - Last of the lot purchased off Winebid several years ago. This one showed better than most, with strong chocolate scent and pleasurable dark fruit flavors. Tannins are long gone at this point, leaving a softly rounded mouthfeel that only felt slightly past its prime. We finished it rather quickly [within 2 hours], though it was starting to slip not long after first pour - therefore time to drink up, lest you have a magnum or perfect provenence.

March 19, 2011 - Betz Family Winery - 1997-2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Retrospective (Russell's, Bothell, WA): The nose of this wine was very complex with currant and cherry fruit aromas and hickory smoke, and nutty notes. Near the end of the flight, this was smelling just like a can of Smokehouse Almonds. I loved this nose of this. The palate had flavors of dark fruit, smoke and spices. This had a soft, but full mouthfeel, and revealed itself in layers as the complexity continued to build through a long finish. This wine is still going strong, and I would love to get a chance to taste it again. My favorite of the flight, and also my WOTN. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc sourced from Klipsun and Harrison Hill vineyards.

March 19, 2011 - Betz Pere de Famille Vertical Tasting (+more) (Bothell): THe first wine of the Betz vertical, and the one that no one could forget at the end of the night. In fact, I don't think a single person did NOT pick this as one of the top 3 of the PdFs. A true stunner
I recall and herbal nose with precise, pure red fruit and a cedary undertone. THe palate was very young, with vivacious acid and it truly tasted the youngest of the flight. A simply fantastic wine. THere were many jokes around the table that perhaps Bob should have stopped making wine after his inaugural vintage...but thank goodness he didn't.

February 26, 2011 - Was my second bottle of the evening so I wasn't in condition to write a more detailed note, but this was a well-made, rich, mature, full-bodied, black cherry-flavored Cabernet. Quite good.
