Community Tasting Notes 9

July 17, 2017 - Red-claret colour of moderate density, with some browning at the rim.

Still relatively youthful (for its years) on the nose, with nice bright red fruits vying with leather and oak.

Quite assertive acidity gives this a tangy feel, but decent complexity with milk chocolate joining the flavours from the nose. Light tannins, though the acidity does accentuate them on the somewhat drying finish.

Slight questions about acid balance aside, this is very good and for less than £13 (bin-end) very fine value. Eaten with food, perhaps ideally a barbecue in the sun, this should do very well.

December 25, 2012 - Medium red with lighter red edges. Nose with strong animal notes including barnyard aromas, leather and meat juices; ripe red berries, mixed spices and some metal filings. The nose hints at a warm character but is nuanced and complex. Medium bodied with rather ripe red berries of medium concentration, good acidity, medium+ tannins, spice, some earth and leather aromas, aftertaste with sour berries and spices. Well made in a traditional style; ready to drink, can definitely take several more years of cellaring.

    May 28, 2011 - DAWGS May 2011 - Spanish Wines!: WIML91

Tasted non blind at a wine dinner.

Garnet color in the glass, fairly clear looking. Nose of barnyard, leather, tobacco, herbs and a bit of mixed dark fruit. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and black raspberries. Bright acidity, medium tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink or hold.

May 28, 2011 - Double decanted for 2 hours. Nose dominated by barnyard and briar patch aromas with some red fruit behind it. On the palate, there is leather, tobacco, sour cherries and some stewed meat. Medium-long finish. Very enjoyable traditional style Rioja. This wine has renewed my interest in tempranillo.
