April 2, 2017 - Really enjoyed this. A few hours of bottle air helped. Good herb tones, a touch of meatiness, and dark black fruits throughout. Nice structure & balanced finish had our group guessing Cote Rotie blind. After ~6 hours of air it started to lean more toward fruit & showed its California side, but the whole ride was enjoyable.

January 16, 2016 - Inky, dark purple color. The nose is very complex with a very old world profile of gunflint, smoke, animale, meaty, violets, and plums. This is a classic syrah on the palate - blackberry, plum, smoked meat, violets, spice, and minerals. Structurally, there are ample, sandpapery tannins that create a rustic mouthfeel, but the acidity is well managed and supports the fruit beautifully. Overall, Shane Finley did an excellent job of creating a cool climate syrah with character and complexity. It needs food to help tame the tannins, but it is well made in a rustic, masculine way.

April 11, 2015 - super dusty, as if the glasses had been sitting in cardboard for a decade. but not in a TCA way. some dark fruit emerged, the tannins had softened out a bit. still, this never evolved into anything special.

January 17, 2015 - New World Blind Tasting Group $25+ (Bin 75): Black core with thin bright reddish violet rim; intense nose, black pepper, black olive, brine, hints at vanilla; dense mouthfeel, rich, vanilla, plum skin, wild berry; needs more time and/or air; very good; nailed it.

October 29, 2014 - Still a baby and just flat out delicious. Frankly, for the area this comes from this is a Monster.
The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blueberry, cherry, plum, forest floor, cedar and lead pencil. It tastes like blackberry, blueberry, cherry, mineral, forest floor, espresso, light toast and black pepper. The body is medium/full. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity.
