November 28, 2023 - vanilla blackberry plum jam tobacco
April 29, 2023 - An excellent bottle that was more open and less tannic than past experiences. Gorgeous, dark fruit and overall, really tasty.
November 27, 2018 - Earthy and driven by secondary flavors. Still drinking well, but not going to get any better.
March 19, 2017 - Just entering its drinkable window (a previous bootle 2 years ago was not worthy) this Sagrantino still has slightly taut tannins for my taste but acid and fruit are in good balance. Love these $30 wines that drink like $75 wines once aged 6-12 years.
August 1, 2015 - My last bottle consumed probably past its peak. Tannins close to gone, fruit fading leaving a (too) prominent role for acidity. Shorter than previous bottle, could be bottle variety but not glorious anymore.
February 16, 2014 - Tipologia di vino chenon è più nelle mie corde
November 17, 2012 - I thought this wine was very good but too young. Dark fruit, chocolate, and some dirt. Strong tannins with bitter acidity. Really funky on the open. Maybe with some cellar time the tannin and acidity will integrate into a better wine.
September 21, 2012 - Old world style with the dark fruit hanging out in the background. A little dirty earth, tobacco, and lether. Tight and gripping tannins. Great pairing with sharp cheese and cured meats.
August 31, 2012 - My first Sagrantino. Interesting stuff. Decanted 1 hr+. Oaky caramel & warm spices, earth, herbs, stinky cheese. Not much fruit, but some cherry. Still quite tannic. Good acidity. Went well with Italian-infused burgers. Evolved nicely and kept me interested for 4 hours. Reasonable value for the $20 I paid, but probably overpriced at $50. 90-93pts.
June 24, 2012 - Rokerig, leer, bessen, kersen, prachtige structuur, vol maar elegant. Kan nog jaren vooruit. Deze 4 uur voor consumptie gekaraffeerd, is geen overbodige luxe.
