July 31, 2018 - Really well made. Nice darker fruits but not plummy. Some mild smoke notes, good structure minerality. perhaps even 93+ points. Still could age longer. Not esp showing deep age. Some good but soft tannins.

(FRANCHETTI Passopisciaro Rosso) Odds Dear Friends, A few wines that made a big impression on me over the past several weeks... We offered the 2010 Montcy Rosé at the beginning of January (and sold out in a few hours) but drinking this wine again last night has me convinced it’s one of the top renditions circa you are likely to find. I’ve tasted at least 6-7 dozen other 2010 rosé wines at this point but there’s something about the Montcy that keeps me coming back to the glass (and the Margui by the way, which may be the very best example in the Var this year with a decidedly cutting and citric style, not the same unctuous frame as in the past). I asked Laura Semeria of Montcy if we could have just a bit more and she said “why not?”. I can’t stress enough the tender display of freshness, delicacy and layers of unobtrusive flavor in this wine – the likes of which we rarely come across on our side of the pond. This pipeline is as direct from her soil to your cellar as it gets: (Here’s the previous missive – same price applies) 2010 Domaine de Montcy Rosé Cheverny - What’s not to like? The grapes for this wine were still on the vine a few months ago, quickly hand-picked and pressed for your enjoyment. This BIO/organic amalgam of Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir gives the taster what many complain about with southern Rosé – excellent framing acidity (aligned with terroir and a deft touch of extract). Drinking this wine from tank is like diving into a pool of fresh raspberry and light Franc notes topped with Cheverny fairy dust. Fresh indeed and quite underpriced for the coddled upbringing. ONE SMALL PRESSING ONLY. If you’d like to see your grapes, here they are: http://bit.ly/eCQ0KN , http://bit.ly/f2d2cC In addition to the Montcy, the following Nerello Mascalese wines from Mt Etna made a big stamp on my memory bank – these are packed in 4-packs (one bottle from each vineyard, which would make for quite an interesting tasting or dinner party): 2008 Passopisciaro Single Vineyard 4-Pack - STRICT LIMIT 1/person until we run out 1 – Chiappe 1 – Porcaria 1 – Rampante 1 – Sciaranuova ...and last but not least, we have a VERY small amount of the “Franchetti” bottling from Etna (this is similar to Passopisciaro’s version of Cornelissen’s Magma bottling with more of a Trinoro stamp) – you can check past reviews but the 2008 has more elegance with the same level of detail and power as the 2006 – ...VERY RARE! 2008 Passopisciaro “Franchetti” IGT (Etna Rosso) - STRICT LIMIT 1/person until we run out (compare at $150-190, up to $350 in other parts of the globe – this is trading for just under Tenuta di Trinoro) ...and very last but not least.... The 2008 Burgundy wines continue to impress – for me, it is a far more successful and terroir specific vintage for both red and white than 2009. At the forefront of the vintage is Hubert Lamy - his entire stable of 2008’s have blossomed with time in bottle – I could drink them every day and never tire of their supreme expression of tension, vintage and mineral tone. The 2008 Clos de Meix is one of Lamy’s most desired examples within France – it is low in alcohol and walks a tightrope of extract and poise that gives it a persona like Puligny but the nervosity of St. Aubin. It has become quite difficult to procure due to demand in France and Belgium (I'm not sure any is destined for the US?): 2008 Hubert Lamy St. Aubin “Clos de Meix” 1er - (if the is bothering you, don’t let it – the wine gets better and better as it sits open and it would even appeal to those that enjoy the Aubert bottlings due to its level of “gras” aligned with Burgundian presence.
