    February 1, 2024 - Another generous pull by a member of CDV713.

I was told this bottle was double decanted well in advance of dinner. Distinctly left bank Bordeaux.

A wonderful addition to a diversified spread.

December 24, 2023 - Poured and waited 1/2 an hour before drinking. Fill was to base neck. Wine was very good. Dark fruit and mineral notes. Classic Bordeaux and quite a contrast to Howell Mountain Cab that we drank at the same time. Enjoyable.

April 15, 2023 - The fill was into the neck and the cork sound; decanted an hour before dinner. A deep garnet core, with notes of cigar box, dried plums, leather, and black truffle. Medium bodied, good focus and grip, with fully resolved tannins on the long finish. For those who love classic Bordeaux, this is singing a lovely song at present! Lovers of modern styled Bordeaux should look elsewhere. First bottle from an OWC.

October 27, 2022 - Mostly Bordeaux dinner (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Expressive youthful nose displaying ripe black fruit, cassis, blueberry, lead pencil, cedar, tobacco, a hint of oak and earth. Medium concentration, finely layered black fruit, silky, slightly lean and angular, medium acidity, earthy mineral, still noticeable tannins and a medium long ripe cassis fruit driven finish with a hint of cedar and leather at the end. This is a solid LLC that is drinking beautifully. It lacks a bit of richness in fruit.

April 17, 2022 - Inky red, still youthful and almost no bricking. Massive swirls of red and black cherries, black pepper, Christmas spices, liquorice and menthol in the nose. Still youthful and very fine. Tasting opens with bright red cherries, redcurrants and fine acidity, supported by black morello cherries and peppery spices. Elegant and fine St Julien.

February 22, 2022 - Purchased on release, and our last bottle, this vintage is very nostalgic for me, as it was my first LLC I ever tasted and purchased way back when and i remember it being a lovely midweight wine soon after release, and it remains such a lovely midweight wine to this day, although the complexity is much greater aromatically than back in the day. Really hard to describe, but what was once dark juicy fruits with hints of cedar is now run through with all sorts of myriad foresty scents. Some would find this a little thin or dried out, but I really enjoyed it, and especially with our meal ("Hunter's Chicken"). I always love it when wines can instantly transport me back to earlier times in my life, while simultaneously anchoring me in the present moment with such captivating aromas and tastes. That is the true magic of wine for me. (As a side note, I have always preferred this over the much more highly touted 96 vintage of LLC, so take my rating with a grain of salt ...)

Complex aromas reveal a shimmering structure with sweet oak and subtle fruit characters predominating. Light on its feet, it shows incredible depth and intensity with layer upon layer of different nuances and flavours. The finish is extraordinarily persistent and overall a superb wine. CHP 95 pts

February 6, 2022 - Last of a case of 12. This has had something of a reputation for being a bit stern which I do not think is deserved. Certainly this was quite open and appealing, if also classically styled.

Good colour, with bright Ruby turn into orange at the rim as one would expect at this age. Ripe, pastille tinged cassis on the nose, jumps from the glass, with cigar box and tobacco leaf; JuicyFruits bubblegum; a hint of something fungal. Fresh herbs too.

Medium weight on the palate. Nicely rounded but classically proportioned, the sweetness of the fruit balancing the refreshing acidity perfectly. Long lingering finish. Lovely and very satisfying
