April 12, 2019 - This bottle was a little disappointing. I have had other bottles from the same case in the past, so there was no issue with storage. It is just clearly coming down on its evolution curve. It had a really nice nose, but was quite simple on the palate and had some tartness to the finish. Also showed much more barnyard (but pleasant) on the nose that I am accustomed to with this wine. Time to drink this now.

March 19, 2019 - Seems on the backside of prime. Probably on the decline.

February 20, 2019 - Mature and drinking well with fully integrated tannins. Medium (+) garnet color. Pretty funky aromatics on the pop (wife said it smells like a horse's ass and wasn't really wrong), but blew off with a short bit of air in the glass to reveal cassis, licorice, graphite, lemon rind, tobacco, dried meat, potting soil, and new leather. Medium body, acid, and finish, with flavors of dark and dark red fruits, lemon, minerals, and spice. Perfect pairing for our pot roast. 90+

February 9, 2019 - A deep garnet color in the glass. The nose is filled with plum, fig, peppercorn and forest floor. On the palate, I found dried black fruits, cocoa and black tea. The tannins are still present and give a bit of stiffness to the wine.

November 6, 2018 - Absolutely one of the smoothest, most mellow wines I've ever had. Distinctive taste, but all the tannins are blended in. This was an exceptional bottle. Very surprised that a second wine could be this good.

(Sarget de Gruaud-Larose St Julien) The second wine of Gruaud-Larose. There is some appeal on the nose here, the wine is clearly just beginning to show some secondary characteristics. Notes of iron, and a rather reserved and lean layer of red fruit. On the palate there is a nice weight, and it still shows a pile of tannin. Clean finish. In all honesty I am a touch disappointed as the grand vin is monumental in this vintage, but this is fairly good nevertheless. I also think it has the potential to show better in the future.
