October 3, 2019 - I think it’s time to drink this one. We decanted for 2 hours. Somewhat muted smell. Sediment in the bottle and in the glass. Low alcohol content.

August 23, 2019 - Very saturated color, brick red, maybe a little diffused at the edges. Bouquet jumps out of the glass - meaty, earthy tones, some leather, fruit comes out after about 15 minutes in the glass. Less to the flavor than the bouquet promises - maybe it will open up with some time in the glass. Does have a good flavor richness, nice cabernet fruit with oak, leather, some tannin still in the finish which is generally pretty smooth and good length. I'll drink my last bottle in the next 12 months - its not getting better and at an age where some bottle variation is to be expected. I look forward to the Grand Vin!

April 12, 2019 - This bottle was a little disappointing. I have had other bottles from the same case in the past, so there was no issue with storage. It is just clearly coming down on its evolution curve. It had a really nice nose, but was quite simple on the palate and had some tartness to the finish. Also showed much more barnyard (but pleasant) on the nose that I am accustomed to with this wine. Time to drink this now.

March 19, 2019 - Seems on the backside of prime. Probably on the decline.

February 20, 2019 - Mature and drinking well with fully integrated tannins. Medium (+) garnet color. Pretty funky aromatics on the pop (wife said it smells like a horse's ass and wasn't really wrong), but blew off with a short bit of air in the glass to reveal cassis, licorice, graphite, lemon rind, tobacco, dried meat, potting soil, and new leather. Medium body, acid, and finish, with flavors of dark and dark red fruits, lemon, minerals, and spice. Perfect pairing for our pot roast. 90+

(Sarget de Gruaud-Larose St Julien) The second wine of Gruaud-Larose. There is some appeal on the nose here, the wine is clearly just beginning to show some secondary characteristics. Notes of iron, and a rather reserved and lean layer of red fruit. On the palate there is a nice weight, and it still shows a pile of tannin. Clean finish. In all honesty I am a touch disappointed as the grand vin is monumental in this vintage, but this is fairly good nevertheless. I also think it has the potential to show better in the future.
