Community Tasting Notes 12

October 11, 2020 - I bought this bottle back in 2011 and managed to hang onto for almost a decade. But after seeing the two recent notes that indicated their bottles were oxidized, I figured I'd get mine open and see. Worst case, it's down the drain but best case, it could anchor my white wine selection for the afternoon, when I will pour it blind. Bottle has been open 1/2 hour. Color has some gold but nothing I would be concerned about if I didn't know the backstory. It shows the brightness of the 2008 vintage, as the acidity remains. Yellow apples, nectarine, even some grapefruit that is the best descriptor of the acidity at this stage. In terms of any oxidization or something being advanced in the wine, perhaps a little nuttiness starting to show in the wine but it's minimal.....as a follow-up, we poured this blind and the darker color was more evident, as it was called out by others at the table. Some nuttiness, too. I do sense some of the age after the wine has aired out, and I don't suspect it is maintaining the quality of the 2008 vintage so I'm not sure how much longer you want to age this....and one final remark. Retasted the wine 24 hours later and the golden color is more evident and obvious to me than yesterday. The wine also tastes heavy and while the acid has very much stuck around, the wine seems out of balance. I'd drink these now if you have them.
