November 8, 2017 - Decanted for only about an hour and this needs more. Give these 4-5 hours and you will be rewarded. With some air just started to get hints of leather, saddle, soy and loads of richness. Soft tannins, with nice balance and good nuance. With time in the glass it gains complexity and some tertiary notes. Awesome texture and perfume.

June 13, 2017 - Vietti Dinner with Luca Currado (Ai Fiori Restaurant in the Langham Place Hotel, NYC): [Double decanted around 1pm.] Muted nose, but expressive in the mouth with lots of sweet red fruit. Delicious to drink now.

June 13, 2017 - This was without a doubt the single best ‘85 Rocche that I’ve ever tasted. As they say with mature wines, “there are no great wines, only great bottles” and this was a perfect example. The purity and remarkably pretty bouquet on the ‘85 Rocche was riveting, a display of roses with crushed red fruits, fresh mint, and dusty soil tones lifted from the glass. On the palate, it was zesty, lifted and incredibly fresh, seeming to take its cue directly from the bouquet with a mix of pure red berries and inner floral tones. The finish was medium in length, adding earthy minerality to the mix, along with remnants of fine tannin.

February 3, 2017 - La Festa del Barolo - some dry notes here, firm acidity and lots of ripeness. Not as enjoyable as a previous example.

February 8, 2016 - It started sweet on the nose, with an initial wave of heat, which quickly blew off as it continued to evolve in the glass. A mix of dried cherries, hints of brown sugar, truffle, undergrowth, crushed fall leaves and minerals evolved in the glass. On the palate, it was medium bodied, with prominent minerality, and inner dried floral and earth tones. It finished with medium length and lingering minerality, earth and dried flowers. This is mature, but well stored bottles should continue to live on for many years.
