September 15, 2019 - Popped and poured. This is a medium-red wine. There is not much sediment in the glass, but there is a bit of bottle crust now (in contrast to the last time I had this wine). On the nose, I get olive, raw game, pepper, and charred brisket. In the mouth, this is a savory and salty wine, with those same aspects pulling through on the long finish. Overall, this is a funky and tasty wine. It is not as distinctive as the Horsepower renditions, but still a good step away from the mainstream. Northern Rhone fans will enjoy. It is probably time to drink this up. 91 points.

August 15, 2019 - This could be confused for a well aged barnyard ‘y Pinot. #notsyrah

July 20, 2019 - Another tremendous wine from Cayuse. Gave it 3 hours to open up and was rewarded with black olive, cherry, pencil lead, and grilled meat. It has very precise and clean flavours and can easily go another 4-5 years.

July 20, 2019 - A real mouthful , close your eyes and you think you are drinking a very very meaty , full of secondary nuance,Burgundy. Very nice .

May 9, 2019 - Needed an hour to knit together, seemed disjointed on opening.

With air: Very dark, with a slightly minty aroma over red currents and a faintly exotic note that reminds me of ripe pawpaw fruit. Smooth and supple, but rather young on the palate; probably won't peak for another five years or more. At peak, it could definitely merit 93-94; right now, however, it simply isn't integrated enough yet.

(Cayuse Syrah Cailloux Vineyard) Medium dark purple red violet color; lovely, redolent and poised, light tart plum, herbs, mineral, roasted plum nose with a light smoky quality; delicious, poised, elegant, complex, roasted plum, roasted berry, mineral, light lavender, smoke infused palate; good now but would benefit from 2-plus years; medium-plus finish (co-fermented with 6 to 10% Viognier; vineyard planted 1997; 18 mos. in oak)

(Cayuse Vineyards Syrah Cailloux Vineyard Walla Walla Valley) Incredibly dark in color. Leaps up with floral notes, mineral notes, and bloody meat aromas. The palate is hugely perfumed, rich, and full with a tremendous mouthfeel. Full of umami flavors, mineral, crushed violets, and meat. A mixture of power and grace. 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. 785 cases produced.

(Cayuse Vineyards Cailloux Vineyard Syrah Barrel Sample WWV) Nose is not there at present, although it is starting to develop earth, berry, bacon, and a touch of violets. Big and intense on the palate. Streaky fruit on a wine that is nothing short of exceptional. Seemingly less alcohol than recent vintages. 100% Syrah. 14.1% alcohol. To be released in 2010.
