July 9, 2023 - Nose is herbs and spice. Some oak, earth, and bacon undertones. Bold and concentrated this wine rocks. It’s a beautiful balance of fruit, oak and earth. Magnificent.

June 10, 2022 - Wow. This was a hit with the PILF students. Locely and smooth. That umami and tomato leaf that I associate with camaspelo in particular. This was drinoing beautifully.

  • Fugu Me Likes this wine:

October 8, 2020 - PnP, consumed over three nights. Initial strong notes of brine, camphor and umami gave way over the duration to rich, dense fruit. Lighter on the palate, as others have noted, than anticipated for a cab/merlot blend, but with enough weight to stand up to a steak if called upon to do so.

September 2, 2020 - Remarkably similar to 2008 Flying Pig drunk the two prior evenings. Soft and round, elegant and complex cabernet-merlot aromas but not overly pronounced. Flavors to match, but medium body rather than as rich or concentrated as I expected. Fully mature. Still an excellent wine but not up to my expectations. Last bottle of 2008 but I'll try a 2010 soon.

(Cayuse Vineyards Camaspelo Red Wine Walla Walla Valley) Dark in color. Dark and aromatically brooding with mineral streaks, subdued cherry notes, and cassis. A saline quality on a palate that boasts an incredibly soft, textured, rounded feel with layered tannins. Finish hangs on a wonderfully fresh wine that is just a baby at present. A beautiful mix of elegance and complexity. 80% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot. 347 cases produced.

(Cayuse Vineyards Camaspelo Barrel Sample Walla Walla Valley) A deep, rich color. Nose is not settled at the moment, showing a fair amount of funky, sulfurous, and nut aromas. After vigorous swirling it begins to come alive with earth aromas. The taste, on the other hand, is delicious. Beautifully balanced with fruit. Lingers effortlessly and endlessly. 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot. 14.4% alcohol. To be released in 2010.
