December 26, 2018 - Out of magnum. Based on other CT notes, this must have been a pristine bottle. Large format undoubtedly was influential. Tons of fruit left, tannins fully integrated, hint of tobaccoo and cedar. Touch of structure remaining to add lift. Just really well balanced Bordeaux drinking in a very elegant, balanced and quaffable window. Not even close to over the hill. Classic St. Julien.

    March 8, 2018 - 12% alcohol.

Moderately translucent dark ruby color with moderately developed brick hue and a wide, clear rim. Somewhat unfocused and awkward nose with rather unpleasant aromas of stale underground air, brackish seawater, some cardboard and a hint of wizened dark fruits. There was an ongoing discussion whether the wine was corked or not, but we came to conclusion that the wine showed so much developed fruit character and other flavors and aromas that it was just shot to pieces. The wine feels vaguely ripe and somewhat earthy with more or less thin and somewhat flat flavors of wizened blackcurrants, some stale cellar air, a little bit of pruney sweetness and a hint of sous-bois and leafiness. The wine feels moderately high in acidity with rather firm and grippy tannins, but as the wine is lacking fruit department, the structure is sticking out very awkwardly. The finish is quite stern, grippy and austere with quite short, dry flavors of earth, some dried dark berries and hints of leafy greenness.

A thin, dilute and somewhat green-toned claret that perfectly shows why 1992 was such a lousy vintage. Although the wine shows no signs of oxidation, the wine is completely dead and in pieces by now: whatever little fruit this wine might have once shown, is now long gone. Waste of money at 40€. Avoid.

July 11, 2016 - Weekly tasting group #221; A mixed set fully blind tasted. (@ WW): In the bouquet earth, mushrooms and autumn impressions. Some chocolate as well. On the palate very mature as well, but still some dark and red berries, bell pepper, chocolate, minerals, firm acidity and mild tannin. Some length as well. A bit weird wine and hard to score; it is old, but not too old and undrinkable. It still has some charm, but it is not as it is supposed to be. No score from me.
