December 23, 2023 - Decanted 3 hours, drank over the next 2. Really opened up after 4 hours - resolved tannins, dark fruit on the nose and palate. Drinking fantastic- if you have a few bottles you should check in on the 2007’s development. A+

August 7, 2023 - I do love this wine. It is holding steady from my first time tasting in 2020 - and continues to provide evidence that Cain needs 15 years - 10 minimum - to show like this. My favorite vintages have been 2006 and 2007, though I've tasted 2009 - 2017. They are just not as integrated as this.

Soft and supple, with a nose that I could smell for hours. Lots of raspberry and cherry on the nose, and on the palate - muted fruit is the best descriptor I've seen, and it fits. Not stewed fruit - it is still clean and fresh, but not in your face or extracted. A long finish, balanced tannins, taste of the vineyard, but fruit forward, though the fruit is wonderfully balanced and integrated into the complexity of the wine. This wine is on a plateau and should hold for a few years before getting into tertiary flavors.

January 25, 2023 - Perhaps it is the result of age, but this is the first Cain I have truly enjoyed. The cork was black and crusty and there was no barnyard smell to detract. The fruit was a bit muted, but interesting, with raspberry most noteworthy.

    December 30, 2022 - In this vintage: 68% cabernet, 16% merlot, 6% malbec, 5% petit verdot, 5% cabernet franc.
Showing appropriate development for age but this is more tarry, black-fruited and ripe than the 2008 and 2016 I've drunk this year, with black licorice and some soft funk. The alcohol feels a bit lifted here. This is clearly still very young, but at this stage it's not my favorite vintage of Cain Five I've had.

November 25, 2022 - Very nice, muted fruit and light tannin's. Holding up well.

(Cain Five, Spring Mountain District) 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 6% Malbec, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc; estate-grown and -bottled, due to be released Oct. 1. Dense, dark ruby in color, with little rim variation. Complex aromas of black cherry, freshly turned earth, coriander, fir, and sandalwood get a surprising citrus lift. Savory herbs, dark chocolate, and sweet espresso come through on the palate. This version is balanced and concentrated, with supple tannins. Winery Spotlight: Cain Vineyard & Winery
