February 2, 2020 - Great color, minimal fading. The nose is a bit reticent at first; but opens to show deep aromas of raspberry, strawberry, flowers, tea, potpourri, oak spices and a hint of decaying leaves. This is medium full bodied on the palate with excellent concentration and real class. The long finish features well integrated grippy tannins and good acid cut. The style here is not as refined as some producers but the material is very strong...a bit rustic.

    January 17, 2019 - 13,5% alcohol. Tasted half-blind.

Deep, luminous and moderately translucent cherry red color. Ripe yet quite dry and savory nose with aromas of fresh cranberries and sour cherries, some lingonberries, a little bit of dried aromatic herbs, mineral hints of gravel and - especially as the wine opens up in the glass - a sweet touch of strawberry. The wine is medium-bodied, ever-so-slightly wild and slightly sweeter-toned on the palate than the nose suggested. There are flavors of juicy black cherries, some savory wood spice, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, light wild strawberry tones, a hint of dried herbs and a touch of savory meaty character. There's a slight hint of sweeter fruit at the tip of the tongue, but otherwise the high acidity, bright mineral core and firm, moderately grippy medium tannins keep the sweeter tones well in check. The finish is long, somewhat grippy and somewhat angular with dry flavors of peppery spice, sour cherry bitterness, some tart lingonberry and cranberry tones, a little bit of charred meat, a hint of savory oak spice and a touch of wild strawberry.

A serious and sophisticated yet quite approachable Vosne-Romanée that is still pretty youthful at the age of 13½ years. The wine isn't particularly sweet or excessively ripe, but the warm (not hot, not cold) vintage shows in the richly-fruited strawberry edge in the fruit and the dry conditions of the vintage are evident in the high acidity and bright minerality here. This is not an excessively tough effort for a 2005, but not a softie either. Another 10 or so years might help the wine unravel a bit and replace its still so youthful character into more mature complexity. A fine wine that is still going up. Nice.

September 1, 2018 - Some nice Burgs (and a few others): On the rustic and rich side, fine now but it will likely be much better with more cellar time.

June 16, 2017 - Way too early to drink now. Wait atleast until 2022.

December 23, 2014 - This surprised me with it richness and heft. A little larger scaled than many Burgs but maintains its freshness with the 2005 vintage advantages. My guess is that this structured classic vintage really works to give this producer's wines more lift and vibrance. Very tasty black raspberry flavors right now. Some oak notes to work through too. Still very primary but enjoyable. Needs another 5 plus to show more depth. Promising.
