Community Tasting Notes 10

May 19, 2011 - After the lukewarm reviews this wine received, I didn't have high hopes, and popped it by myself on a Thursday night. I was very pleasantly surprised. I did note that previous reviewers recommended food, so I opened it with dinner tonight. Pretty mild stir fry, lots of veggies and some Dover Sole, with the flavors mostly influenced by ginger, fennel, and leek over cumin-seasoned Basmati rice. I tell you, this wine SINGS. It does sing a somewhat shrill soprano, I'll admit, but it does sing. It's beautiful and melancholy. It's all citrus and sparkling, acidic minerality, and strangely at one point I almost thought I detected some botrytis??, but it works for me. I paid $13 for this wine (on sale...apparently people aren't buying this? I would have overlooked it, too), and think I found a winner. Seriously wanting to travel to the Basque Country at this point.

October 22, 2010 - Very tart when cold, best aspects I think are a lively citrus scent and palate, and somewhat briny finish. This wine needs to accompany food, it is just too narrow in flavor to stand pleasingly on its own.

October 9, 2010 - Not a whole lot on the nose other than lemon lime. Highly acidic initially, but crisp light fruit. Not a wine to drink by itself. Will add more notes after having it with dinner.
Went much better with food (breaded chicken using blood orange olive oil, plus veggies cooked in EVOO & Meyer lemon oil) as it balanced out the acidity, gave it a creamier mouthfeel. Also just time open to the air helped it open up more.

February 21, 2010 - OK, at first sip this was awful. It was lemon lime on the nose, but the taste was pure shellac. I thought there is no way that I can drink this. I turned the bottle around and there was the word 'alfredo'. It wasn't in context of food but I thought hummm...so I cooked up fettucine alfredo for dinner and it was amazing. The wine tasted completely different and it became crisp, acidic and wonderful with the creamy, buttery alfredo sauce. The wine had also been open about an hour or two at that point so maybe that helped too. But to drink this as a porch wine, no way.
